Caramelized OpiNIONS (aka RVA Foodie): Creecy Greens, Two Ways*
http://caramelizedopinions.blogspot.com/2009/02/watercress-two-ways.html
Caramelized OpiNIONS (aka RVA Foodie). Food blog, frugality, and uncouth social action. Thursday, February 19, 2009. Creecy Greens, Two Ways*. Is a bitter green, like mustard greens, or nasturtium leaves, but they're also thick, like collards or kale. And they're spindly, like arugula. Does this sound good? From a Scottish food blog. I made both, and I still have some of the greens left over. Is somebody talking about me? Does this even look like the same baby as the picture above? The color doesn't pop ...

86 Richmond: December 2008

Monday, December 8, 2008. Restaurant Review: Stronghill Dining Company. Last weekend I finally had some time to go to a new restaurant for dinner. Since I live almost within walking distance to Stronghill Dining Company, I thought it was a good time to try it out. The inside of the place is very open. Big chandeliers and artsy things on the wall. It looks nice. Yes Did it taste good? My lady friend ordered the Pan Seared Seasonal Fish, "Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Asparagus, Oyster Mushrooms topped with Beer...

86 Richmond: January 2009

Thursday, January 29, 2009. Restaurant Review: Black Sheep. Well everyone in town has been to Black Sheep and I haven't seen a bad review yet. I just had to check it out to see if it could live up to the hype. The menu is as quirky as the decor. The descriptions are fun and playful and the prices are on the left side of the menu. They have Battleship sandwiches! These sands are on a full baguette! The Black Sheep ( map it. 901 W Marshall St. Richmond, VA 23220. Http:/ www.theblacksheeprva.com/. Jauregui ...

Caramelized OpiNIONS (aka RVA Foodie). Food blog, frugality, and uncouth social action. Tuesday, January 23, 2007. Honeymoon in Mexico, pt. 2: LA COMIDA. For your viewing pleasure are twenty or so pictures of food and fresh ingredients that we encountered in Mexico. See pt. 1 for cultural and historical escapades. Another snack that is popular in Mexico (only the southern part, I'm told) is huaraches. They're sort of the equivalent of a New York slice: cheap, fast, cheezy, tasty. Not long after the torti...

Caramelized OpiNIONS (aka RVA Foodie): V-Day Alternatives to Richmond's Restaurant Romance Racket

Caramelized OpiNIONS (aka RVA Foodie). Food blog, frugality, and uncouth social action. Friday, February 08, 2008. V-Day Alternatives to Richmond's Restaurant Romance Racket. A la Eric Ripert. Regardless of whether you stay in or go out, I feel like the specialness of the night is enhanced by the right combination of food n'tude and not by how much you spend or how fancy you dress. After all, V-Day is about being together rather than buying distractions. Never been to a chaat house. Here you can casually...

Caramelized OpiNIONS (aka RVA Foodie): Bodacious Brunch at Bacchus (on a budget)

Caramelized OpiNIONS (aka RVA Foodie). Food blog, frugality, and uncouth social action. Monday, March 03, 2008. Bodacious Brunch at Bacchus (on a budget). Since moving to Byrd Park in 2004, I assumed that the closest restaurant, Bacchus. Had flourished in that Main and Meadow location before graduating to Broad Street bistro status. Surely, more overpriced underachieving had followed in its place. No thanks. But I do jump at the chance to eat fancied up eggs in a relaxed setting. In my opinion, m...The n...

Caramelized OpiNIONS (aka RVA Foodie). Food blog, frugality, and uncouth social action. Thursday, July 05, 2007. Viva Falafel y Buena Suerte, Mexico. Last week I strolled into Aladdin Express. Too often at other eateries, I have ordered falafel and rather than receiving fried balls of mashed chick peas and spices, what I got was a crumbly mess of rehydrated and fried prepackaged mix (yuck! Al’s eyes light up. “You know what my secret is? 8221; he says? 8220;Um, you’ve finally gone vegetarian? At the bott...

Caramelized OpiNIONS (aka RVA Foodie). Food blog, frugality, and uncouth social action. Friday, February 20, 2009. The New RVA Foodie Site. I'm going to start using this site. Which is based on a Wordpress platform, which I'm probably going to be tweaking for some time to come. But, for the meantime, this URL isn't going to be good much longer. When I figure out how to redirect it, I'll do that. In the meantime, you'll find me (and all of my old content and ongoing discussions) here:. BAD FOOD TO AVOID.

Caramelized OpiNIONS (aka RVA Foodie). Food blog, frugality, and uncouth social action. Sunday, June 01, 2008. Agony with Aioli: Four Failed Attempts. I just wasted two cups of EVOO, four eggs, and 18 cloves of garlic and all I've got to show for it is an elevated blood pressure. If any of you can point out where I went wrong, I'd certainly appreciate it (as will other readers). This confession won't impress most chefs, but I hope that other foodies will benefit from my mistakes. Couldn't be that hard.
