Angus' Blog: The Gift of Tongues
http://wordcircles.blogspot.com/2011/01/gift-of-tongues.html
Friday, 7 January 2011. The Gift of Tongues. Tongues] is a gift that can be used to edify the spirit even as the mind is bypassed.' Mark J. Cartledge, The Gift of Speaking in Tongues. I wonder if this 'bypassing of the mind' has had an effect on Charismatic attitudes to formal theology: if God can be known without intellectual engagement then why bother with academic study! Angus' Blog: November 2008
http://wordcircles.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 26 November 2008. Let me share something from a seminar. If we are made in the image of God then we are, in some sense, trinitarian. This might be reflected in the father-mother-child relationship or in human components of 'law', 'body' and 'communication'. I hadn't heard of trinitarian psychology before! Spooks and the mission. And saw a wonderful picture of forgiveness / salvation as Rodrigo is liberated from his literal burden. I'd recommend watching both if you haven't seen them. It's a re...

Angus' Blog: July 2008
http://wordcircles.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
Saturday, 26 July 2008. A good kind of thuggery. Listening to a talk by John Piper, who quotes Luther saying, "I beat importunately upon Paul". Here Luther sounds like the kind of man one wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley! This reminds me of Jacob wrestling with God in Genesis 32:22-32. We are often reminded that Jacob limped after this encounter with God but Jacob is more struck by the fact that he survived at all (v30)! A fuller quote from Luther is below, taken from here. Angus' Blog: Christianity as a performance
http://wordcircles.blogspot.com/2011/01/christianity-as-performance.html
Friday, 14 January 2011. Christianity as a performance. One of the things that liberal democratic society has encouraged Christians to believe about what they believe is that what it means to be a Christian is primarily belief! What people think is, is that it's like the text of Lear,. Rather than the actual production of Lear. It has to be performed. For you to understand what Lear. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
