Wanna get read? Then get reviewed!

The Positively Productive Writer by Simon Whaley. There’s one thing about time on which we all agree – we never have enough of it. Accept that fact and move on. Moving on has to be the first step in becoming positive about anything, let alone as a writer. I do like this kind of book. If I’m honest, I was sold on being positive years ago. Life coaching, spinning negatives into positives, it’s something I swear by. Can it be so simple? Once you train your mind to be positive, yes. Whether you’re a se...

Wanna get read? Then get reviewed!: Pebbles on a Beach by Jennifer Button

http://readreviewed.blogspot.com/2014/07/i-like-to-think-that-im-something-of.html

Pebbles on a Beach by Jennifer Button. Usually I'm a sucker for a good saga and I had high hopes for this book. It's very much a character-driven novel and that’s something I normally enjoy. But in this case I didn't find the characters too believable and I struggled to find anything that really endeared them to me. The author has clearly worked hard to develop those characters, but that work has been weakened by the high number of errors on too many pages. Toni (female) became Tony –. No matter how hard...

Edith's Return to Devon by Daniel Pitt. I had high hopes for this book. I bought it, hoping to read it when visiting Exmoor. As part of the plot centres around one particular region of the moor, I thought it would be the perfect read. The author must have spent so much time and effort on this book that I almost willed it to improve – but even towards the final pages. parent's should have been parents'. Basic errors have no place in a novel of this magnitude – or price. On a good day). I came across Debbi...

Wanna get read? Then get reviewed!: Mandrake's Plot by Helen Laycock

http://readreviewed.blogspot.com/2014/04/mandrakes-plot-by-helen-laycock.html

Mandrake's Plot by Helen Laycock. Even though I knew I would be painfully homesick, I always wanted to attend a boarding school. But not just any school - I wanted it to be a fictional one, where there were adventures and midnight feasts! More than forty years later and I still yearn for those adventures. I've finally accepted it's never going to happen, but thank goodness I can still read about those schools in YA fiction. Of course it's far-fetched, but in a believable way, and it's also great fun.

Wanna get read? Then get reviewed!: The Complete Guide to Ghostwriting by Teena Lyons

http://readreviewed.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-complete-guide-to-ghostwriting-by.html

The Complete Guide to Ghostwriting by Teena Lyons. The subject of ghostwriting's always intrigued me and when I came across this book, by chance, I thought it would be an interesting read. Ghostwriting is an industry in itself. Good ones earn big money - but if this book's anything to go by, they certainly earn it. Dealing with 'celebrities' must be frustrating and it seems a successful ghostwriter must have the patience of a saint. From '140-word tweets' to book titles changing ( A Child Called. The Com...

Wanna get read? Then get reviewed!: Love Byte by David Atkinson

Love Byte by David Atkinson. From the first chapter I was certain I was in for a treat. As David Atkinson described the beauty and romance of Andy and Lindsay’s perfect wedding, I knew – from the book’s blurb – what was to come. I almost held my breath as the marriage was blessed and doomed – all within those first few pages. David Atkinson’s engaging plot springs more than a few surprises. Andy Hunter has a blokeyness about him that endears. Females think they know and understand men &#821...For a numbe...

Fiction and musings from a SF, horror, fantasy writer in the making. Sunday, 15 March 2015. Farewell and Thanks, Sir Terry. 8220;Don’t copy me.”. That’s what Sir Terry Pratchett said to me when I met him. I’ll never forget that day, when our Waterstones was still called Ottakar’s. I’d never seen a queue for anything so long – not in my town. It extended right down the main shopping high street, and people were asking us, “What’s going on? 8221; I guess there’ll always be the odd ones. Then I mumbled some...

Fiction and musings from a SF, horror, fantasy writer in the making. Monday, 12 January 2015. And on a Different Note. My Yamaha piano. I bought it in April 2014, and I can’t imagine being without it now. Here’s the backstory: just over 20 years ago I studied music at the end of my school life. I’d always loved music – listening to it, at least. True, I did have a drum kit and guitar when I was younger, but the noise that came out wasn’t music. No. Playing music seems to reinvigorate my creative mind&#46...

Fiction and musings from a SF, horror, fantasy writer in the making. Thursday, 29 May 2014. A Little Bit of Divine Intervention. Ever read a book that changed your life? I could have followed him down that path, but in 1996, during that summer, I became absorbed in a book for the first time since I was quite a bit younger. That novel was Terry Pratchett’s Small Gods. June 1, 2010. Witchling by Yasmine Galenorn. 8212; hatkinso @ 7:36 pm. I’ve wanted to read something by Yasmine Galenorn for quite a while, because I’ve spent some time in a forum chatting with her and reading her posts; She’s a fun, smart lady with a good sense of humor. This book is the beginning of a series of eight books, as well as four more planned for release, according to her website. It was a good book to pass time with, I enjoyed the characters, their relationships, and the variety of creatures...
