https://youthpopularculturetextslesleysthoughts.wordpress.com/2015/10/11/catchphrases-2
Lesley's Thoughts - Youth, Popular Culture and Texts. Published October 11, 2015. It is widely acknowledge that William Shakespeare introduced thousands of words and phrases. This lead me to consider some of my favourite sayings and where they came from (don’t worry I won’t just list Star Trek quotes). How many have you used and can you identify where they came from? Some catchphrases are direct quotes but others are conglomerations of things said and others are changed to suit a purpose. Fly, you fools.

Lesley's Thoughts - Youth, Popular Culture and Texts. Thanks for the meme-ory. Published October 11, 2015. A meme is a term first coined by evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins and according to Wikipedia. Is an idea, behaviour, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture . It can be one of those annoying earwig melodies, which become stuck in your head, a catchphrase. Or even a fashion trend. And often have pictures of characters from one fandom saying quotes from another fandom. I con...

Youth, Popular Culture and Texts. October 18, 2015. October 19, 2015. Access, Access…read all about it! Can I suggest that if there’s anything more topical than the use (or not) of ‘new media’ in schools, it would have to be the filtering of access to the internet. We all know there are pros and cons to filtering access to information, and we all agree on the need to protect youth from ‘unsuitable’ or ‘inappropriate’ material. But who decides on what is and is not suitable material? This study identified...

Keeping Youth Engaged! | Popularising Reading
https://popularisingreading.wordpress.com/2015/10/24/keeping-youth-engaged/comment-page-1
Youth, Popular Culture and Texts. October 24, 2015. October 24, 2015. I’ll keep those thoughts for in-house or maybe even a future post! Besides, I just finished my annual review and thought I would capitalise on the efforts. So, in keeping with my first post to ‘some degree’ I thought I would share another ‘popular’ experience in our library in 2015. Working on inquiry with the entire year 7 cohort was a highlight of 2015. This experience enabled me to put into practice some of my learnings. I wonder if...
