The Importance of Good Head. 1 October, 2009. 8220;I believe a person who has never worn a beer-foam mustache is missing something.” –. So what does the head on a glass of beer do? Is it, as many people feel, a barrier to the beer, at best a moustache decorator? Is it just for looks, or is there a deeper reason? Kevin, getting excited about froth. So what makes for good head? A Little Beer Snobbery. Try a Belgian D...

Kevin's Real Beer Blog. An Englishman in California, on Beer. On the Evils of Hops. On the Evils of Hops. 10 January, 2012. It’s fairly well known that I generally prefer the malt to the hop, which is unsurprising given the beers I grew up drinking; thinner, sweeter beers like the browns and milds popular in old-fashioned British Midlands pubs in the 80s. Even when I moved into the pale ales and bitter beers, I was happy enough drinking them as session beers. Big Ass Hoppy Amber. Click to share on Google...

Kevin's Real Beer Blog. An Englishman in California, on Beer. So this guy walks into a bar…. So this guy walks into a bar…. 20 February, 2011. Somewhere under there I’d often imaged a nice ivory, or at worst, magnolia. No-one had dared clean the paint for fear of the stand-out clean spot. 8220;What are you having?

In honour of the most entertaining news story for ages, this is Red Top Best Bitter. The trouble is, it’s not actually that red. It’s a lie! Actually, I had this brew planned for ages and didn’t have a name for it. I also thought of this name, so not letting the facts get in the way of a good beer, this is the name I gave it. Spirit, art and the cancer dance. Sunday, February 06, 2011. One day I will step out of my body, and burst into bloom. It has been a really rough couple of weeks. I had the PET scan about 3-1/2 weeks ago, and got the results a week later. I jumped right into treatment again, starting chemotherapy two days after seeing my oncologist. Nobody loves chronic. And now I'm learning the difference between chronic and incurable. Or perhaps ultimately fatal, if you want a harder word. Chronic is someth...Ps Credit...

Spirit, art and the cancer dance. Friday, July 01, 2011. Sooooo. I went last week and had yet another MRI (my eleventy-hunnerth) and then an afternoon visit to my oncologist. Saw the neurosurgeon Tuesday. Get whole brain radiation, for 10 sessions - I assume 10 days? 160; physicist? Love to you,.

Spirit, art and the cancer dance. Friday, December 31, 2010. There are days when this is how cancer feels and cancer treatment feel. The world is out there, and is gorgeous, but I can't get at it. I'm trapped in the cancer cage. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. I do try not to whine.). Still, New Year's Eve dance party to enjoy this evening. Dancing may break me out of the cage, at least temporarily. I don't know. I don't think I can be a badass this week. Links to this post. The question ...

Spirit, art and the cancer dance. Tuesday, January 25, 2011. Beast Chthulu and bone metastases. In answer to a friend who wants to take me to the "new body store". She says, "I am familiar with lymph glands.but I'm not familiar with hilar. Where and what are those? So I am tactless enough to ask, what will the cancer moving into the bones do/mean? Is this unusual or par for this kind of crap? Are you in pain from any of that? Breast cancer tends to be "responsive", which means a high percentage of people...

Rahr Angry Goat Dobble Bock. I love my boch beer, I like the heavy flavor and I love the malt with the easy light Hopps to back it up. It’s my kind of beer. So when I had Rahr’s Angry Goat, I found another beer that I was in hog heaven for its malty flavor. I have had this beer a few times and decided it deserved a review. This time I had it on draft which took it a notch higher. 4 out of 5 burps. I really liked it, but I thought the spice was a little on the heavy side. I would say this is a great o...
