Realising the Dream

Trying to live a greener, more self sufficient, sustainable and simpler life. Monday, 27 July 2015. New to Ewe and Harvest Monday. Our handsome tup has arrived! We picked him up yesterday. We met a wonderful lady, called Sue, who was a fountain of knowledge when it comes to Shetlands, and sheep in general. We learned an awful lot sitting in her kitchen, drinking tea, our children slowly trashing her house. He is joining the goat in her newly created goat paddock. Then quickly came back to sniff the new n...

Realising the Dream: Harvest Monday - First (Proper) Cold Frame Harvest

http://realisingthedream.blogspot.com/2015/07/harvest-monday-first-proper-cold-frame.html

Trying to live a greener, more self sufficient, sustainable and simpler life. Monday, 20 July 2015. Harvest Monday - First (Proper) Cold Frame Harvest. Well, our first true cold frame harvest. One decent sized courgette and four, rather sweet, little cucumbers. I know this is hardly life sustaining but after our horrendous start to the year I am just glad to be getting anything from anywhere. My dad built the cold frame for me, check out a picture at the bottom of this post. 20 July 2015 at 16:01. It is ...

Realising the Dream: April 2013

http://realisingthedream.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Trying to live a greener, more self sufficient, sustainable and simpler life. Thursday, 4 April 2013. Gardening with a Rooster. Last weekend I decided to hit the garden and get some seeds planted out, nothing overly fancy, basically I decided to have a bed that used up all those seeds that have been sitting around going past their plant by date! Helping me out was my all time favourite chicken. Not sure of the politically correct term for him but Differently Enabled seems the best! I have lived several p...

Trying to live a greener, more self sufficient, sustainable and simpler life. Wednesday, 8 July 2015. I Make No Apologies! Well, if you've been copying along and trying out a few of our recipes and you had a go at the butter making, well you should have a jug of buttermilk sitting about needing to be used up. Well, here's a recipe that'll get it used up! I make no apologies for your waistlines! 340g Self Raising Flour. 1 tsp Bicarbonate of Soda. Mix both the flours, salt and bicarbonate of soda together.

Realising the Dream: Our Sheep Get Their First Haircut

http://realisingthedream.blogspot.com/2015/07/our-sheep-get-their-first-haircut.html

Trying to live a greener, more self sufficient, sustainable and simpler life. Friday, 24 July 2015. Our Sheep Get Their First Haircut. Is It Just Us or Is It Chilly Now! The ladies were very well behaved and the whole thing didn't take too long. They looked at me the whole time like "Mum, what is this man doing? We don't want to be upside down. Can't we just go back to the field? Would they believe me the next time or think that I was up to something again! Or I suppose a wet felted scarf or something!

Is now located @ Chestnut Ridge Farms since October 2013. Five acres of land with one acre tillable for home grown vegetables. If luck permits, I can finally have chickens! Mushrooms @ the New Property. Yes, this one is also a mushroom. Almost looks like dry leaf. Brownish red in color. Smaller version of the second pic. These are orange in color. My children called this umbrella just like the first pic. This one looks just like the one they sell at a local grocery store. Labels: Utilizing Our Yard.

Is now located @ Chestnut Ridge Farms since October 2013. Five acres of land with one acre tillable for home grown vegetables. If luck permits, I can finally have chickens! Being born in tropical country I do miss eating tropical fruits and other food. Since the weather is getting warm very fast in my area, I checked my seeds packets and re-checked online on how to plant them. This time I wrote a few guidelines on the envelopes. Picture is not mine* * *. For the yard that is. We did our gravel drivew...

Is now located @ Chestnut Ridge Farms since October 2013. Five acres of land with one acre tillable for home grown vegetables. If luck permits, I can finally have chickens! Around Chestnut Ridge Farm. By the way, the lemon grass was dark brown color at the bottom already when I put it in water. I think it took about a month to show the roots. Sunday, April 27, 2014. The peace of a traffic jam! I found myself, the other day, in a familiar yet frustrating situation. For what is so predictable and typical of my journey, I left with anticipation and hope that ‘ pfffffft, it’s going to be different today’. Nope, same as it has been 99 percent of times travelled this road! You see, what I am discovering is that we spend our lives speeding along trying to avoid hurdles and speed bumps, trying to keep everyone happy for a smooth ride, fast tracking e...
