Really Random Garden

Wednesday, 16 November 2011. My life is looking a bit like this just now, as the leaves fall and fall faster than I can grind them into mulch. My last harvest included large green and small red peppers, some overgrown fennel stalks, small and slug-nibbled eggplants, and a nice albeit holey cabbage, which is in large mason jars fermenting into sauerkraut even as I write. And then there's oca. With a couple of mislaid small sweet potatoes. Many, in fact, are the oca. Due to oxalic acid content I'm guessing?

Really Random Garden: April 2011

http://reallyrandomgarden.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, 7 April 2011. The blue orchard bees. Are starting to emerge, a little late due to the chill. Lots of blossom for them to snack on, I hope. After a talk about bees I started leaving my dandelions to flower as they are apparently a valuable nectar source early in the season. Slug eggs found and destroyed:. Got my tomatoes seeded last month and now they're starting to pick up speed. Many varieties on the go. I enjoyed in last summer's veg basket from Haliburton. Variety, the Japanese Black Trifele.

Really Random Garden: July 2011

Tuesday, 19 July 2011. My Year of the Cabbage Moth. If the cabbage moth. Doesn't have a place in the Chinese calendar, perhaps it should this year. Or at least a month in someone's calendar. Or maybe two months. It's been a big pain in my garden since about mid-June. Ok so I'm told it's not a moth, it's a butterfly, ( Pieris rapae. That was accidentally imported to Canada from Europe, but that doesn't endear it to me in any way. And, I learn to my horror, any other cruciferous plant. And me, of course.

Really Random Garden: June 2010

http://reallyrandomgarden.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Monday, 14 June 2010. GTUF June Garden Tour. We started our June garden tour at Dave's where we were welcomed by Jessie. Dave's artichokes looking tall and comely. And his planter boxes thriving. Lower right features red orach and bok choy. Lots of gardening tips being exchanged on what felt like the first summery day we'd had. Next stop Laurie's where the size of the potatoes growing beside the house gave us an inkling about the lushness we would find in the back. A bumper crop of blueberries on its way.

Blogging Life As It Happens. The Marlboro Ranch - Afterthoughts. Tuesday, June 9, 2009. It Was. Amazing. A few days to go! Wednesday, May 27, 2009. Only a few more days until we leave to go to the Marlboro Ranch in Montana. So excited! I am so piss-my-pants ready for vacation I can hardly stand myself. It's getting a little too hot and steamy down here for this northern girl. I went outside last night to water plants and instantly started sweating, er, I mean glistening. Embarrassed to use coupons. I lov...

July 27, 2011. 8230;I’ve got some nails. In my early 20’s I wanted to be known as the girl who. Had gum or mints, and I was. (I can’t tell you how many ill-advised hook-ups I have facilitated because of this.). At 26, I was the girl who never wore pants. It was shocking if I wasn’t in a dress skirt or even short shorts, but pants? The argu...

Monday, September 7, 2009. Trivial Pursuit: America Plays. I have finally seen the end of civilization as we know it. No, it's not a financial collapse or secret government conspiracy, it's "Trivial Pursuit: America Plays.". We have finally managed to find everything that is wrong with our culture and our education and distill it into a half hour of shame. Let's dissect the show a bit. The people on the show are clueless. Yes the questions are that easy. America" is playing at home? So in summary, skip t...
