Sunday, February 28, 2010. CHINA TRAVEL PART 5: A short journey to Shaxi. Now, usually I'm not interested in anything that happened over a hundred years ago. I'm just a modern type of gal. Just another WordPress.com site. Market Day in Catania. Leave a comment ». Vendors compete by singing the praises (and low prices) of their fresh vegetables. Pushy signoras heckle the vendors to get more for their euro coins. And everyone wants to get this done before the market closes down at 1:30 pm for the rest of the weekend. On a Saturday morning, the market in Piazza Carlo Alberto is a busy place to be! Written by Janet Lawrence. February 27, 2011 at 5:37 pm. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Easter: From Start to Finish | janetlawrence

Just another WordPress.com site. Easter: From Start to Finish. Easter in Italy is a big deal. The festivities begin 40 days before Easter, or Pasqua, with Carnevale, Italy’s equivalent of Mardi Gras. At Carnevale I learned the following:. 1) For children, the main point of the tradition is pummeling other costumed children with confetti and silly string. Where’s the marketing strategy? Haven’t the street vendors ever heard of the Disney vault? 1) Easter eggs are way more fun in Italy. The tradition c...

Thursday, May 27, 2010. I also stayed in a great neighborhood, which was the former Jewish ghetto. (Many Jews fled to Shanghai during World War II). The area is called the Hongkou district and it was full of busy streets, old architecture, markets, and friendly people, who complimented me on my awful Chinese. Thursday, December 31, 2009. HARBIN Part 3: Ligers, and Tigers, and Jaguars (Ai-ya! One of the coolest things we did in Harbin was go to the Manchurian Tiger Park. I felt kind of guilty, because animals in captivity are always a bit depressing, but these kind of tigers are going extinct - so, on one hand, it's good that they're being bred. The park has about 500 tigers currently. Jess and I piled into a little bus with a bunch of other Chinese tourists. Here's her "we're going to go see some tigers!
