On Being An Optimist: July 2008
http://onbeinganoptimist.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
On Being An Optimist. Wednesday, July 16, 2008. Assem, 10, said he had never seen people drink but knew what happened when they did. "They can steal," he said. "And maybe they might kill each other.". There was nothing like sitting at the bar of the hotel looking at the Pyramids and enjoying my tasty and very rereshing gin and tonic. So, my travel tip to those of you who are planning to go to Egypt? Skip the Grand Hyatt. The Cairo Marriott is gorgeous, with an incredible pool - and full bar service.

On Being An Optimist: February 2009
http://onbeinganoptimist.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
On Being An Optimist. Friday, February 13, 2009. And This Week's Un-Excellence in Government's Prize goes to. Insert cheering and applauding here]. Apparently the conservative Republican only just figured out that he would have ideological differences with President Obama. Wow. Thanks. Once again, Obama looks (and probably feels) like the kid who asked the prettiest girl in the class to dance, found out she had herpes, asked his second choice and got punched in the mouth for his trouble. Hey, Big Spenders.

On Being An Optimist: The Hand that Rocks the Cradle
http://onbeinganoptimist.blogspot.com/2009/07/hand-that-rocks-cradle.html
On Being An Optimist. Tuesday, July 28, 2009. The Hand that Rocks the Cradle. Last weekend the NY Times interviewed Carol Smith. I've had good bosses, bad bosses and in-between bosses. I've never singled out anyone and attributed their gender to their rating. I've had a female boss who wouldn't know nurturing if it bit her. She carried every bit of mean girl pettiness and acted out on way too many occasions. What do you think? Have boss horror stories you want to share? Posted by Aoife Toomey.

On Being An Optimist: Dream Team 2.0
http://onbeinganoptimist.blogspot.com/2009/07/dream-team-20.html
On Being An Optimist. Thursday, July 30, 2009. Dream Team 2.0. Before I get started let me just state unequivocally that I love and admire Michelle Obama. She's one of the best role models to come along in years, and the Obamas. Relationship seems more than pretty great to a complete outside observer. Now that that's out of the way, I have to say however that MoDo. Ran a paragraph in her latest OpEd. That got me thinking:. Aura In a funny way, he’s the man of her dreams.". More confident in her choices?

On Being An Optimist: Happy Birthday America! (or 5 things I didn't know about DC)
http://onbeinganoptimist.blogspot.com/2009/07/happy-birthday-america-or-5-things-i.html
On Being An Optimist. Tuesday, July 7, 2009. Or 5 things I didn't know about DC). I LOVE July 4 th. It's my favorite holiday, and not because of the hot dogs and the fireworks (although they are pretty spectacular) or even because of the long weekend (again with the spectacular) but because I love the symbolism. Anyone who has even the most cursory relationship. It is a small monument, tucked off to the Constitution. Organized the White House, the Capitol and the Washington Monument to form a Pythagorean.

On Being An Optimist: August 2008
http://onbeinganoptimist.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
On Being An Optimist. Thursday, August 28, 2008. Musings on The Democratic National Convention. Monday night BF was away, so I made myself comfortable and settled in. I was very moved by Senator Kennedy and delighted at how strong he seemed. Watching Maria Shriver. Watch him was tear inducing and I was painfully aware of the fact that once Teddy passes on, an era is truly over. There is then, something especially poignant about the link between Obama. Something that hints of a flame being passed on.

On Being An Optimist: Sarah Palin..WTF?
http://onbeinganoptimist.blogspot.com/2009/07/sarah-palinwtf.html
On Being An Optimist. Monday, July 13, 2009. Yeah, I mean the title pretty much sums it up. I was honestly left in mouth-gaping astonishment. After her little resignation speech. I guess you have to hand it to the woman - she can still shock me, which is more than can be said about a lot of people or occurrences. I have no issue with Palin. If you will) way to get there. Why else would she use the MacArthur quote at the end (who I hope is rolling in his grave, he was a serious man in serious times).
