What sort of calculus goes on in someone's head? And is there a dichotomy between the genders/orientations? Is it better not to care, or at least pretend you don't care? If you really care about someone, you should tell them! If you have the capacity to love the unloved, shouldn't you use it? Is it a plea for reciprocation?
