Become Your Own Best Advocate. Laquo; Live Beyond The Disease. April 7, 2011 by Rebecca. So says my fantastic doctor, Dr. Margo Minissian. She said it in just the right way, too. Not downplaying it, instead, focusing on the positive. After all, when you have a ‘disease’, you sound so, well. 1) Disease: an impairment of the normal state that interrupts or modifies the performance of the vital functions. 2) Condition: a usually defective state of health. Now, say it aloud. Which sounds better to you? I hav...

Become Your Own Best Advocate. Laquo; Am I Having A Heart Attack? Live Beyond The Disease. January 13, 2011 by Rebecca. February is fast approaching. The ‘red’ month and I don’t mean Valentine’s Day. It’s a fantastic thing that a whole month is dedicated to raising heart disease awareness. Anytime attention is focused on an issue that affects millions of people, it is a worthy cause. Overall, much is being done to spotlight what can be done to. Heart disease. Heard this one before? On the Internet regard...

Become Your Own Best Advocate. July 4, 2011 by Rebecca. Alas, it is time for me to put down the mouse and discontinue my blog, ‘Rebecca’s Heart’. This blog has been instrumental in working through my condition. However, I believe that this avenue of therapy has run it’s course. It is now time to move on to other, more satisfying, endeavors. I would like to thank you all for your kind readership and, if my experience has helped even one person, then it was all worth it. Good health to you! Be miserable...

A Change of Heart: When ads go wrong: No one deserves to die
http://a-changeofheart.blogspot.com/2012/07/when-ads-go-wrong-no-one-deserves-to.html
A Change of Heart. A blog detailing one woman's experience with heart attack and SCAD (spontaneous coronary artery dissection). Sunday, July 8, 2012. When ads go wrong: No one deserves to die. I get what the Lung Cancer Alliance is trying to do, but when I'm innocently reading a story online about Roger Federer winning his seventh Wimbledon title, I don't expect to be hit with an ad telling me that I deserve to die. Http:/ www.noonedeservestodie.org/? And you get it anyway, then clearly it's your own fau...

A Change of Heart. A blog detailing one woman's experience with heart attack and SCAD (spontaneous coronary artery dissection). Saturday, December 29, 2012. It's been a long time since I've made New Year's resolutions. I used to make all of the standard ones relating to diet, fitness, more time with family and friends. For 2013, I just have one goal: cherish myself and my imperfect heart. Everything else will flow from that. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Why am I doing this? But tell that to my bod...

A Change of Heart. A blog detailing one woman's experience with heart attack and SCAD (spontaneous coronary artery dissection). Wednesday, March 30, 2011. This time two years ago, my husband and I were sitting in the ER at UNC Hospitals. It would be another 8 hours or so before a doctor would say the words "You've had a heart attack" to me. Two years ago tomorrow would be the first time we'd ever heard of a spontaneous coronary artery dissection. Blessed to be celebrating tonight with good friends. But t...

A Change of Heart. A blog detailing one woman's experience with heart attack and SCAD (spontaneous coronary artery dissection). Friday, March 30, 2012. Each year when the anniversary of my heart attack rolls around, I do something to mark the date. The second anniversary, in 2011, was more upbeat and was dinner out at my favorite restaurant with Paul and a few friends. How many women have to die before our cardiac symptoms are taken seriously? A Change of Heart. A blog detailing one woman's experience with heart attack and SCAD (spontaneous coronary artery dissection). Monday, May 21, 2012. There are words for groups of things: a murder of crows, a kindle of kittens. What do you call a gathering of patients who've all experienced the same under-diagnosed heart condition? I call it a MIRACLE, and it happened in Naperville, Illinois a couple of weeks ago- the first-ever SCAD Reunion and walk for SCAD Research, Inc. Why am I doing this? But tell ...

A Change of Heart. A blog detailing one woman's experience with heart attack and SCAD (spontaneous coronary artery dissection). Friday, July 31, 2009. I'm done with rehab! Or as my co-worker Hank said when I got to work this morning and showed off my stylin' new red shirt, "I survived cardiac rehab and all I got was this lousy T-shirt." [Let the Star Trek. Red shirt jokes commence ;)]. Blood pressure has stayed about the same, in the 110/70 range, though when they checked it right after I'd come off the ...
