Charlotte Au Chocolat | Recession Bites
https://recessionbitesblog.wordpress.com/2014/12/28/charlotte-au-chocolat
This is truly an old classic. This was my mum go to cake. Charlotte au chocolat with creme anglaise. And she was right. It’s a winner winner chicken dinner. Very few ingredients and with no butter and no sugar you really could do worse than this dessert when it comes to counting the calories! Please not that this recipe is adaptable to what mould you’re using so the ratio of mousse to lady fingers is for you to decide! 4 eggs; 300 g of chocolate; 20 lady fingers; bitta rum; bitta cold water. Once youR...
Aligot | Recession Bites
https://recessionbitesblog.wordpress.com/2015/01/02/aligot
This is utterly indulgent and perfect for all the left over cheese you might have after Christmas and new years. It’s a fondue in a mash. So basically it’s perfect. Perfect, I say. 1,5 kg of rooster potatoes; 750 g of cheese (this ideally will be cantal cheese or some tomme but you can use any cheese you have really); 1 pot of creme fraiche, freshly cracked black pepper and 3 cloves of garlic. 2 thoughts on “ Aligot. https://recessionbitesblog.wordpress.com/2015/01/05/salade-danniversaire
And finally, I’m grateful to John who eats everything I put in front of him even though and let’s me plan his next meal as he’s not even finished his plate yet. So yeah, to celebrate I made this salad. You should do too. Again thank you! 1 cucumber; a small portion of smoked fish (I’d left over trout), 1 ripe grapefruit, 1 heaped teaspoon of sesame seeds, a bit of feta, 1 shallot, olive oil, pepper. Blueberry Cake | Recession Bites
https://recessionbitesblog.wordpress.com/2014/12/14/blueberry-cake
Easy like a Sunday morning, or in my case Sunday afternoon. Bit of Edith Piaf in the background and a few more boxes unpacked now that I’ve moved. Cats are happy out playing in the garden and I want cake. I also need to start using what’s in my freezer. So two punnets of blueberries have come out to play. Here’s what I did. Pour the batter in your oiled mould and add the 2 punnets of blueberries. Greens That’ll Make You Go WOW! One thought on “ Blueberry Cake. Love the jar with geese on it! You are comme...

Second Bite @ Belly Bites : eatforafiver.com
http://eatforafiver.com/2015/04/16/second-bite-belly-bites
Munching cheaply through life. What this is about. Second Bite @ Belly Bites. For President. I thoroughly dislike exclusionist politics. I’ll be voting yes. In both referendums. For lunch, I decided to revisit a place I felt I had been a little unfair to the first time around. It’s a little place on Thomas Street, just opposite the top of Francis Street: Belly Bites. I wrote about it before. I ordered a bowl of chilli con carne. A sizeable bowl was lined with rice, on top of which was spooned a good ...

Munching cheaply through life. What this is about. I was just about to give in to my hunger and head to a burger joint when I spotted Sophie’s Creperie in the High Street Arcade. What drew my attention was this …. 8230; and I thought to myself: that’s exactly what I want right now. Sophie’s is a bright, spacious cafe …. 8230; and I was welcomed warmly by the charming and friendly Michael …. In fact, my smoothie came first. It was the second one on this list …. So I won’t repeat myself. This one...I spent...
Hawker by the Dome : eatforafiver.com
http://eatforafiver.com/2015/02/03/hawker-by-the-dome
Munching cheaply through life. What this is about. Hawker by the Dome. My intention had been to go to Burdock’s in Rathmines for a battered sausage and chips. It was a reluctant intention, to be honest. Christmas has left me rounder than I’m supposed to be and chips would be unlikely to help. In the back of my mind when I got to Rathmines, however, was a place that I thought was in the old civil defence fire station nearly opposite the library. This place is now called the Mart. The Martcade is a multi-p...

Munching cheaply through life. What this is about. Archive for the ‘ Sicilian ’ Category. Hawker by the Dome. My intention had been to go to Burdock’s in Rathmines for a battered sausage and chips. It was a reluctant intention, to be honest. Christmas has left me rounder than I’m supposed to be and chips would be unlikely to help. And is an art space/gallery which I thought, wrongly, had a café in it. So when the reluctance got the better of me, I turned right rather than left and headed to it. The Martc...

More bla bla bla. Bulloverman made me some things. The Wasteland of the Learning Mountains →. January 10, 2014. Me: We need to take Brown Spaniel out somewhere – he’s bored. Me: Where shall we go? Spouse: Dunno. Let’s just get in the car and see what happens. Me: Well… wouldn’t it be better to have a plan…? I’d like to go somewhere interesting…. Spouse: No. Too much kerfuffle. Let’s just go. After 15 minutes driving]. Me: Oh. We’re not going to Tehidy woods are we? Somewhere we’ve never been before?
I Believe in Cheap Food : eatforafiver.com
http://eatforafiver.com/2015/07/03/i-believe-in-cheap-food
Munching cheaply through life. What this is about. I Believe in Cheap Food. The eatforafiver cogs have been stationary for a while. The day job takes over in April, May and June and the opportunities for taking a jaunt into town or elsewhere in search of cheap food are limited. Last October, a helpful man called Sean McElroy pointed me towards a few places in the Camden Street area. One, I tried soon after. But the other has been gathering dust in my inbox ever since. Until today. PJ chose a Caesar salad...
Madina on Mary Street : eatforafiver.com
http://eatforafiver.com/2011/07/26/madina-on-mary-street
Munching cheaply through life. What this is about. Madina on Mary Street. My late and much missed Father-in-law, Tom, took me to Southall in west London a few years ago and introduced me to the delights of Masala Dosa, a very simple dish consisting of a rice-based pancake stuffed with spiced potato and served with sambar (a lightly spiced sauce) and sometimes a coconut chutney. I loved it and, until recently, it was something you couldn’t find in Dublin. The menu is varied and interesting with more veget...

Munching cheaply through life. What this is about. Pig & Heifer: a celebratory feast. To celebrate the older lad’s engagement*, I thought I’d treat myself to a. I have Seán McElroy to thank for the venue. He emailed me a few weeks back and suggested that I try the Pig and Heifer, and another place down the road in Montague Street, which I now have on my list. The Pig and Heifer has four branches in Dublin according to their website. Behind the glass there’s a veritable cornucopia of fillings, salad...
Duck : eatforafiver.com

Munching cheaply through life. What this is about. Guest Post by Edward Meredith*. I was pessimistic when informed that I would be eating in a place named ‘Duck’, but my mood quickly changed as I walked in the front door. Although small, this small shop was filled with atmosphere. The line stretched as far as the door and was even longer when we left. Bright colours and interesting pictures on the wall enhanced the experience and the man who took your order had a great smile on his face. Well done on you...

Recessionbeard.com – all about recession beards and life unemployed! January 21, 2012. This weekend I’m up, north of Toronto, in Collingwood, Ontario. The purpose? Today was a great day. There were some people on the hill but nothing to make you stir crazy waiting in line at the lifts. Now I’m back at the chalet warming my soul. You might recall that I have a job now. Things are going alright there. I don’t want to put the horse in front of the cart so we’ll leave it at that. :). December 30, 2011. Copie...

Recession Blog
Ongoing clusterfuck of the U.S. and World economies. Tuesday, March 19, 2013. Just what the hell is going on? This whole Cypriot bailout story is plain insane (haircutting citizens, Russian money laundering, etc.). And it sounds like a terrible idea. Here is some commentary:. This House Has No Confidence In Olli Rehn, Nor Anyone Else. More on the Russian angle. A muddled and risky approach to Cyprus. Of course Prof. Krugman has a couple of comments on the situation, here. But so far my favorite comment.
