the urban souffle: La Rochelle
http://theurbansouffle.blogspot.com/2010/09/la-rochelle.html
Food and travels from across the pond. Sunday, September 26, 2010. View from my bedroom window. I live in a more residential neighborhood away from the city center, and you can see how peaceful - calm - and provincial the town is. Same port and castle views, at night. It's idyllic and charming. The whole port is lined with seafood restaurants, cafes, and little bars. There are always tourists in town, although most seem to be from other regions of France as opposed to other countries. So ...There was an ...

http://theurbansouffle.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Food and travels from across the pond. Tuesday, August 31, 2010. It's Doctor Fish time. I don't know about you, but a couple of the first things that came to my mind when thinking of Japan are spas.massages.thermal baths.hmmm. Sure enough, there is this amazing spa house down the way from our apartment, just a half hour walk along the beach to its spot on Sunset Beach. Come 'n get it! Now you know why it looks a little scary at first.they look like they're attacking my feet. Kinda cool, huh? This massive...

http://theurbansouffle.blogspot.com/2011/02/grenoble.html
Food and travels from across the pond. Monday, February 14, 2011. Yeah, I know.I feel a little ashamed to be posting again all of 3 months after my last post. But time just sorta flew by after exams, the holidays, heading back to the US for Christmas.you know how the story goes. Before you know it, it's already mid-February and I'm wondering where the new year has gone already. Grenoble. Is. Beautiful. The beautiful mountains during one of our hikes from La Féclaz, the large ski station close to Chambéry...

the urban souffle: November 2010
http://theurbansouffle.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Food and travels from across the pond. Tuesday, November 9, 2010. Last week was the French holiday of Toussaint on November 1 (equivalent to the United States' "All Saints Day" after Halloween), which meant a whole day off with the weekend for travel time. Literally everything. Is an interesting combination of what I would call an American barbecue French fondue Japanese shabu shabu, of sorts. These large black grills are called Raclette grills, and you place slices of cheese in small pans, known as coup...

the urban souffle: From Normandy to...Oslo ?
http://theurbansouffle.blogspot.com/2010/11/from-normandy-tooslo.html
Food and travels from across the pond. Tuesday, November 9, 2010. From Normandy to.Oslo? Couchsurfing. It's something I had heard of often but never tried before.basically, it's a website where people from all over the world log-in and offer 'couches' or beds for other travelers. You don't have to know these people, you probably will never see them again after you've come and gone, but people join for the sole reason of wanting to communicate with others from across the world. The fortress was built by K...

http://theurbansouffle.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Food and travels from across the pond. Friday, February 18, 2011. When I'm not working, I'm hiking. As the premier touristique site in Grenoble, it attracts over 600,000 visitors per year. Above) The view of the mountain as you approach the Bastille on the other side of the Isère River. The Bastille is that little brown fort thing you see on the top of this mountain. Random note:. Monday, February 14, 2011. Grenoble. Is. Beautiful. I have an internship with a bakery just across the street, and I'm learni...

the urban souffle: Île de Ré
http://theurbansouffle.blogspot.com/2010/10/ile-de-re.html
Food and travels from across the pond. Sunday, October 3, 2010. Biking up the coastline of the island.nothing but ocean and sand pathways stretching as far as you can see. Chilling with Marta in a couple alcoves in the ruins of the Abbaye Notre Dame de Ré. While biking into the old fortified port town of Saint-Martin, we saw a mini festival going on, complete with carousels and donkey rides. Not sure if these pant-wearing donkeys are a local custom or maybe they were just cold? On our way home! Awesome I...

the urban souffle: The famous machine animals of Nantes
http://theurbansouffle.blogspot.com/2010/10/famous-machine-animals-of-nantes.html
Food and travels from across the pond. Monday, October 18, 2010. The famous machine animals of Nantes. Voyage II of the month: Nantes. Standing inside the beautiful Passage Pommeraye. In city center. The indoor passage-way is small shopping mall built in the mid 1800s, and elaborately done with renaissance style sculptures. Yet another reason Nantes is a cool place to visit.you can meet Mr. Incredible himself. And my favorite part about Nantes by far. Les Machines de L'ile Nantes. View my complete profile.
