Divine Objects: June 2009

A blog about beautiful things. Sunday, June 28, 2009. Dwell on Design - "The West Coast's Largest Modern Design Event". At the LA Convention Center ended today, and although I only had enough time to do a quick walk-through on Friday, I did have the opportunity to discover many great products and vendors for the first time. That I see around sometimes, but never know where to purchase. I was also lucky enough to stumble upon Samuel Moyer. And it was such a treat to meet the gals of Amenity Home. Nursery ...

Skip to main content. Skip to secondary content. Simple living for the long haul! I LOVE tiny houses. For those of you who aren’t hip to the tiny house movement, it is a relatively new obsession amongst people like me who see the value of of not paying a mortgage or rent so that they can spend their time and money having more fun. Picture by Nicolas Boullosa. So basically, my eventual goal is to build a tiny house, like the one pictured left, using sustainable principles. Tumbleweed Tiny House Co. You ar...
RiverEdge: Roofing 9

Building my own shelter on the banks of the Kennebec River. Step One: Building the JayBee. Tuesday, August 4, 2015. The north side gable dormer was the last place that needed roofing drip edge installed, and I decided today was the day! The part that took the longest was wrestling the ladders into place and moving them around when I needed to work in a different spot. Here's the gable edge that needed drip edge. Awwsee who surprised me by suddenly appearing out from under the JayBee? Siding (West Wall) 5.

Building my own shelter on the banks of the Kennebec River. Step One: Building the JayBee. Monday, December 15, 2014. We have been having mostly horrendous weather for the last two weeks. Rain, tiny hail pellets, freezing rain, snow, drizzle, around and around, over and over again. On the rare occasion that the sun showed itself, the roof of the JayBee was covered in ice. Check out this coating of ice that I had to chip off the car. And the pile of ice chunks I had to shovel up afterwards. Good Shepherd ...

Building my own shelter on the banks of the Kennebec River. Step One: Building the JayBee. Monday, November 10, 2014. I always feel a little thrill when I pull the tarps back and see the JayBee uncovered- especially now that the eave trim and roof sheathing are on it. My only option was to get back up on the roof. At least the view from there is always rewarding. Especially in the dormer valleys. After spending hours getting the roof cleaned off, I could begin installing drip edge. Then three more pieces.

Building my own shelter on the banks of the Kennebec River. Step One: Building the JayBee. Sunday, November 16, 2014. I had two roofing helpers today. We had been hoping to install metal roofing panels, but I hadn't gotten far enough along to do that, so we decided to focus on getting the ice and water shield completely installed instead. The day started out cold! Here is Arlen helping drive the final screw into a piece of drip edge we added to the roof. Well, the west end- not so much.

Building my own shelter on the banks of the Kennebec River. Step One: Building the JayBee. Friday, July 17, 2015. Siding (West Wall) 1. Before I began to install shingles on the west end of the JayBee, I installed this piece of trim. Can you guess why it's there? The starter course installed. After I had half of the first official course of shingles installed. I realized I had forgotten to put flashing on the outer corners of the bumpout. Oops! I went ahead and installed it at this point. Reclaimed space
Thursday, 30 January 2014. It's been too long. But then again, perhaps it's needed. Breaking rhythms, working outside in the sunshine. I still miss this space. Therefore, happy new everything I guess. I have been all over the place, quite literally. The luxury of a month in one specific place lies ahead, and that allows a little bit more time to think. It seems airplane engines are never good for reflections, at least in my case. Links to this post. Friday, 12 July 2013. Links to this post. 160;The city ...
