The 14th Amendment granted citizenship to newly freed slaves. Finally, the 15th Amendment gave black males over the age of 18 the right to vote. These codes blocked freed slaves' voting rights. The Ku Klux Klan was a secret society created by southern white supremacists that tried to intimate African Americans after the Civil War.
