The Brahms Requiem | Recumbentman's Blog
https://recumbentman.wordpress.com/2014/05/18/the-brahms-requiem
You can take the man out of the blog. Laquo; Epiphany at Ballinderry. Stephanie, Jenny, Vanessa and I went to hear the St Cecilia Singers in Christ Church Cathedral last night, doing the Brahms Requiem. It brought back strong memories to all of us of Joe conducting it in Trinity. It must have been the first thing I sang in Choral, in my first term, 1967. It was after that, or during that term, I wrote my three songs,. Chimpanzee, Learner Driver. Alexander Frink and Son. Feed You can leave a response.

You can take the man out of the blog. Laquo; The Brahms Requiem. Last week we had a holiday in Kerry. When I was little my father bought a cottage right at the south end of Brittas Bay. It was called Green Cottage and we spent every summer holiday there till I was ten. That was in 1958, when he built the bungalow in Kerry, where we’ve gone ever since. You can take the man out of the blog. Laquo; Aisling Out Walking. Not a lot of activity in this forum last year, I confess, but I did do another month of journals. On h2g2 in November, which brings us more or less up to 2013. Happy new year. We began the year with a viol weekend organised by Patricia Quinn in Ballinderry House. Just west of Ballinasloe. We were three on Thursday morning, then five till Sunday (Epiphany). We left at lunchtime. Here is what we played:. Bevin and Baldwyn’s Brownings. Jenkin...

You can take the man out of the blog. Laquo; Beethoven’s Irish Songs. I like Dennett’s writing, particularly his books ‘Darwin’s Dangerous Idea’ and ‘Freedom Evolves’. Although he is a professor of philosophy he refuses to write in jargon. I wrote him an email last year thanking him for his elegant unravelling of the free-will problem. The puzzle is this:. Do we have free will, or is everything that happens completely determined? Is completely determined by what went before. The talk was interesting and ...

You can take the man out of the blog. Laquo; November 2011: a month of blogs. Aisling Out Walking is what we call this trio: James Quah on ukulele, Aisling Walsh on vocals, and me on bass. We first appeared last August in the Ukulele Hooley By The Sea. Then at a birthday party in Sonairte. An environmental education centre in Laytown, north of Dublin, and most recently (pictured above) at the Millennium Bar. In Parkgate Street. We croon in pleasant harmony and no eardrums are burst. My Dublin Life: Bright winter
http://www.mydublinlife.com/2010/11/bright-winter.html
It's just been the most beautiful day. Short, of course, because winter days get dark early, and definitely cold, but just gorgeous - sunny, bright and blue-skied, without a cloud in sight. I ventured out of the apartment without gloves this morning, picked up a pair for ONE EURO in Penneys. How do they do that? And went about my day. I'm being careful with money because I want to have enough to do the Christmas shopping at the markets. But this weather does sort of suggest chestnuts! Cool blog by Dublin...
My Dublin Life: Oh, the weather outside ....
http://www.mydublinlife.com/2010/11/oh-weather-outside.html
Oh, the weather outside . It's a bright sunny day in Dublin today and it snowed over the weekend, so the parks are looking very pretty and even the streets have that bright wintry look. Kids all over the city rushed into every park to make snowmen, so wherever you go you're overseen by chubby guys with sticks for noses and eyes made of whatever could be found at the time - bottle caps, etc. This weekend I braved the weather and made it town to the Kildare Village. What a total loser. Chick from the Sticks.

Bloody ear shame; meeting. Then, this morning of all mornings, my alarm didn't go off, and I was nearly late for the meeting. I had to rush there without even having a shower. The Dublin Tourism. Office, which I had never even noticed before, is in a big converted church near the bottom of Grafton Street. Are the Protestants less fussy about that sort of thing? Of course I asked, hopefully, if there was any money in it. She shuffled her papers and said, "Eh, well, times being what they are and all...
My Dublin Life: Yum, yum
http://www.mydublinlife.com/2010/11/yum-yum.html
I've picked up some extra work at the Taste of Christmas do at the Dublin convention centre next week! This is great because A) it will give me the chance to earn a little extra money for Christmas and B) otherwise I probably wouldn't go and this way I'll get to enjoy it without having to pay the entrance fee. So, it looks like a lot of fun. There are going to be lots of famous chefs showing people how to cook. I've really learned a lot about how to enjoy it. Maybe something piquant and African? Liberty ...
My Dublin Life: Afro Celt Sound System
http://www.mydublinlife.com/2010/11/afro-celt-sound-system.html
Afro Celt Sound System. My ears are still ringing. I was at a concert last night and it was just fabulous. I can't believe I hadn't heard of those guys before. The Afro-Celt Sound System. Was playing the National Concert Hall. I so love the way Irish traditional music isn't just alive and well but growing and evolving all the time.I wish I was musical; I would love to play the uillean pipes. They have a much sweeter sound than the Scottish bagpipes. Everything is looking super-Christmassy these days, wit...

But I want to be NICE, right? So I let him be my buddy on Facebook. And I give him my Skype details and my landline and whatever. And I SAY, "So let's keep in touch," but I don't mean it. I mean, we all know that "let's keep in touch," means the opposite. Right? Cue silence from Buddy. But he hasn't called since. And I just laughed my heart out, callously. Anyway. He deserved it. The funniest bit is the idea of me getting involved with Bepe, who thinks a book is something to hold the ...I have investigat...
My Dublin Life: pantomime
http://www.mydublinlife.com/2010/11/pantomime.html
I've been told by the best of authorities - my friendly local greengrocer - that one of the things to do in Ireland in the winter season is to see a pantomime. Now, I've never seen one but I've consulted a few friends and everyone has concurred that it's definitely something to do at least once, and that the pantomimes in Dublin are the best in the business. So, I was thinking I might go to this one in the Gaiety Theatre. There's something very folklorish about the whole thing. Chick from the Sticks.

I belong here now. And that's not all. Yesterday, my boyfriend and I got engaged to be married! Everything is different, and I think that would-be visitors to Dublin would benefit more from a fresh view. I hope you've enjoyed reading. And do come to Dublin. It's a wonderful place to visit, and it's so easy to feel at home here. There's always lots to do and a warm welcome. And if you don't believe me, come and see for yourselves :-). I have a cold. I have a cold. It's raining. There's no food. My housemate is out and I'm feeling too sick to crawl to the shop and too poor to order in. I went to a danceshow and caught a cold dancing about in a t-shirt and getting in a sweat. So now I look like a rednosed freak! Maybe I have swine flu. Lurking in my room. I guess it might be nice to have a boyfriend but there are also some benefits to being single. I can do whatever I want. Sigh. Heck if I know. I am also a bit low on funds. A quick bro...
