On a positive note…. PLASTIC. Boy, did the world change when people started using it! These days, we could hardly live without it. But we are just beginning to find out what the consequences are. My New Year’s Resolution, although vague, was to use less plastic. On a positive note…. I fell in love with the Western Redcedar (WR) while living in Humboldt County. Dendrology turned out to be one of my favorite classes at the University. Only wish I could remember everything I learned. The HSU campus had one WR specimen that wasn’t doing well, but I remember admiring its beauty, despite its condition. Besides being lovely to look at AND a fantastic lumber product, the WR is the Provincial tree of British Columbia (shout out to dray. When I say it! Cool Mum & Dad.

Random Thoughts of a Great-Granny Grandma. I'M GLAD I WAITED. On Mother's Day, my daughter gave me a seedling tomato plant that I nurtured on my windowsill for several weeks. When it seemed big enough and strong enough, I transplanted it and moved it to my balcony, where it really took off. By July, the leaves were looking thick and healthy, and there were many flowers on it, but none of the flowers turned into tomatoes. They just bloomed, and then dried up and died.
