북한강에 있는 강섬으로서 총면적은 14여만 평에 이른다. 원래는 홍수 때에만 섬으로 고립되었으나 청평댐의 건설로 완전한 섬을 이루게 되었다. 넓은 잔디밭이 전개되어 있고 둘레에 밤나무숲이 무성하고 별장,방갈로,수영장 등 오락시설이 잘 정비되어 있으며, 서울과 가까워 많은 관광객이 찾아든다. 백자작나무길, 잣나무길, 메타 세콰이어길 등 운치있는 숲길이 명소이다. 아침고요수목원은 경기도 가평군 축령산 기슭에 위치한 곳으로 원예미학적인 관점으로 한국의 미를 계절별,주제별로 다양한 모습을 보여주는 곳이다. "아침고요"라는 이름은 인도의 "타고르"가 조선을 "고요한 아침의 나라"라고 예찬한데서 비롯, 한국적인 자연미를 가장 잘 표현할 수 잇다고 여겨져 붙이게 되었다. 호한국 최초의 양수발전소인 청평양수발전소에서 양수발전을 위한 물을 저장하기 위해 인공적으로 조성한 호수이다. 운영대행 (주)인포타운 : 사업자 132-81-82292.
