In which I mention my unfulfilled potential. No One Wants To Know About Your Cycle →. Life Rules: Part One. July 9, 2015. But, I was on the no. 94 bus today and I was trying to distract myself from the shouting snaggle-toothed baby and so I mentally composed some Life Rules. They turned out to be quite good. So I think I should write down some of these thoughts because there’s no use just having internal monologues all the time without releasing them into the interweb, right? Vegetarians, I get you now!

http://yulinkacooks.blogspot.com/2008/05/russian-grocery-tour-spartak.html
Sunday, May 18, 2008. Russian Grocery Tour: Spartak. Welcome to Spartak, the third stop of my Milwaukee-area Eastern European grocery tour (see also the first. Installments). Word on the street is that Spartak is the most popular of all Milwaukee-area Russian groceries. This small, bustling store is well-priced, well-stocked and staffed by reasonably helpful employees. 5587 N. Diversey Blvd., Whitefish Bay, (414) 332-3347. Honestly, I haven’t been doing an item-by-item price comparison between the ...

Yulinka Cooks: Soviet Kitsch: Sandwiches and Canapes
http://yulinkacooks.blogspot.com/2008/01/soviet-kitsch-sandwiches-and-canapes.html
Wednesday, January 02, 2008. Soviet Kitsch: Sandwiches and Canapes. Looking for appetizer ideas? Why not consider this Soviet cookbook from the 1960s? Admittedly, when it comes to food, I’m no fan of all things retro. I don’t collect old cookbooks, I have no interest in making “gourmet” versions of 60s stalwarts like tuna casserole, and I’ve never perused the Gallery of Regrettable Food. Some sort of smoked fish- herring or mackerel. Sounds like a fun book, Yulinka! Sadly I don't read Russian (I know - q...

Yulinka Cooks: Soviet Kitsch: Soup
http://yulinkacooks.blogspot.com/2008/03/soviet-kitsch-soup.html
Monday, March 10, 2008. It’s time for another installment of Russian Retro Recipe Cards. This time, the topic’s soup. I've documented Russians’ love of soup. Pretty thoroughly on this blog, but I’m always surprised by the variety and the sheer oddness of some soups described in Russian and Soviet cookbooks. Let’s take a look at a few (from Soviet soup recipe cards circa 1988):. Got random processed meat products in the fridge? Here's the soup for you:. Which one Russian cookbook author. The "random proce...

Yulinka Cooks: Vatrushki

Saturday, April 15, 2006. Are brioche-like pastries with a tvorog. Filling. I've wanted to make these all week because a) I needed to test my mettle in making yeast dough for the first time and b) I had a pound of. I followed the recipe from Anya von Bremzen's. Please to the Table. Yes, those are different. I used a mixer to make the dough, like Anya suggests, though I suspect that a KitchenAid would make this much easier. I combined 1.5 cups warm milk. 2 packets of yeast. And 1 tablespoon of sugar.

In which I mention my unfulfilled potential. I am a New Zealander living in London with five little boys and a tired husband. I cook, whine, run, think about clothes, yell at kids, read. In which I mention my unfulfilled potential. Being five and deluded. White Jelly Shoes and OUCH my sympathies to Kate →. I am not always calm or firm or consistent. April 18, 2015. So, I tried ignoring them both for a bit, in a shruggy kind of ‘whatcha gonna do? SO DO MY SHINS. THEY ARE BLEEDING INSIDE. Then I relented because I am as firm as an overripe brie and as consistent as the Circle Line (read: not firm and not consistent) and I said Casper and Ned could buy a brownie for later if they improved a...

In which I mention my unfulfilled potential. Newer posts →. April 27, 2016. Remember last post when I was talking about theoretically being a conspiracy theorist? And how obviously I am not, but if I was…yada, yada, so much yaddering. Well, there is more on that, because of course that tiny beautiful Prince died, which seems so completely wrong and apocalyptic, and it lead me to a further thought about all the people who have been dying this year. And here is my thought:. And I’m like:. First season fun ...
