Red Headed Chaos

A story of our family. Tuesday, April 30, 2013. Today's Therapy Session Ended Early. Mostly because my kid was throwing things at the therapist. And the kid was doing so well. The kid closed down. Declared, that if anyone had made a mistake, it was the therapist. Certainly not the child. Then the kid announced a desire to chuck a shoe at the therapist and wisely opted for pillows instead. Some blankets were thrown too. My dear child announced, there was no way THAT was going to happen, so I sat down, sai...

Red Headed Chaos: Please Think, before you Stink

http://www.redheadedchaos.blogspot.com/2013/03/please-think-before-you-stink.html

A story of our family. Friday, March 15, 2013. Please Think, before you Stink. I have a problem. Some people have to be careful about what they eat. They have allergies or sensitivities to gluten, nuts, milk or shellfish. Some are life threatening, essentially isolating the individual that must be careful with every morsel of food that crosses their lips and in extreme cases, the residue of food on skin, wrappers, counters, or any surface someone else may have unintentionally contaminated. Red Headed Chaos: January 2013

http://www.redheadedchaos.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

A story of our family. Thursday, January 31, 2013. Sooooo 50% off $120.00 is how much? It's the end of January. Even though the weather is still chilly and there's plenty of freezing nights ahead of us still, in the stores, it's time to prepare for the next season. Simply put, if you're needing gear for next winter, now is the time to buy. I stopped a moment. It's a been a long time since I was in school but I'm pretty sure I can halve $120 and add $4.00 tax and still have less then $78.00. Then there wa...

Red Headed Chaos: The Aftermath

http://www.redheadedchaos.blogspot.com/2011/12/aftermath.html

A story of our family. Monday, December 26, 2011. Christmas has come and gone and overall it was a lovely holiday. We had a few details floating, for instance since Sacrament meeting is the only meeting when Christmas lands on a Sunday and mom with Scott would be both opening gifts and eating dinner with us, we weren't sure when we wanted to go to church. You see, mom failed to put the presents under the tree at her house. Obviously she was confused. Next year should be easier, this was the first Chr...

Cajun Strawberry: Vegan Fried Eggplant

http://cajunstrawberry.blogspot.com/2014/03/vegan-fried-eggplant.html

Thursday, March 27, 2014. I love fried eggplant. It's hearty and meaty, and it makes one heck of a burger. But I don't like making it with eggs. This batter is light and crispy without that heavy, eggy, soggy texture. Eggplant is the meat-loving vegan's best friend. It happily takes the place of a variety of meats in many different dishes. To choose a ripe, not-over-ripe eggplant, look for a smooth, dark skin and firm, slightly spongy flesh. 1 large, ripe eggplant. Wash and slice eggplant. Set aside.

Cajun Strawberry: Vegan sushi-How to make sushi at home

http://cajunstrawberry.blogspot.com/2014/03/vegan-sushi-how-to-make-sushi-at-home.html

Thursday, March 27, 2014. Vegan sushi-How to make sushi at home. Earlier today, I posted about Vegan Fried Eggplant. I mentioned that it was meant to be used in sushi. Does not = raw fish. At all. Is raw fish. Sashimi is sometimes used to make sushi, but not always. Sushi is a broad term which refers to a variety of tasty little morsels, usually (but not always) including rice, Nori seaweed papers. The title of this post is Vegan Sushi. Cajun Strawberry: Sushi Fried Rice

http://cajunstrawberry.blogspot.com/2014/04/sushi-fried-rice.html

Friday, April 11, 2014. Our lunches are often thrown together from this and that, whatever I find in fridge and pantry. The results are often rather impressive. Today is one of those days. D brought home sushi a couple of days ago. I had leftover rice in the fridge. I tossed together the leftover dipping sauce and wasabi with a few pantry staples and -voila! Fried rice is one of my go-to recipes. It's much easier than you might think. The extra toppings turn a basic dish into something special. Today's T...

Cajun Strawberry: December 2013

http://cajunstrawberry.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, December 4, 2013. My mom used to make a version of these muffins. I LOVED the little bite of warm applesauce hiding in the center. I don't just limit myself to applesauce for these muffins. A spoonful of jam, preserves, pureed fruit, Nutella, or anything else you fancy turns a regular old muffin into something special. I used pear preserves in this batch, so I cranked up the spice to complement the fall flavor. 1 TBS flax meal. 1 1/2 cups flour (All Purpose or whole grain). 3 TSP baking powder.

Cajun Strawberry: May 2014

http://cajunstrawberry.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Friday, May 9, 2014. As I've mentioned a few times recently, I am streamlining our homeschool, combining necessary tasks with the subjects we are studying The result of this is more free time, more room in our day to play and to add in extra lessons that we have not had much room for in the past. On of these new endeavors is Picture Study (or artist study later, but last month, just picture study). For this lesson, we read Kogi's Mysterious Journey. I show them different artistic elements in the picture&...

Monday, December 31, 2012. And a Happy New Year. Well, blogging-wise, this year is going out not with a bang, but a whimper. I promise there were some cool things that happened during the second half of 2012. For example, my sister got married and it was a super fun party and my mom danced to Gangnam Style (not pictured, unfortunately). Overall, this year was a pretty interesting one for me.
