The Final Push | katebakes

The Bread Peddler is born…. Where There’s Smoke… →. June 29, 2014. Things are steaming along here, and not just because of the moist mountain weather. Tim and I actually went for a short bike ride yesterday: we had to scramble/carry over all the winter’s downed trees, we got severely eaten by bugs, we were rained and hailed on, and then were nearly hit by lightening. It was a great ride. Mixing concrete for the oven cladding. Tim levelling the concrete on top of the oven. The start of the façade bricks&#...

Gathering Morels | meat + potatoes

https://meatandpotatoesblog.wordpress.com/2011/06/06/gathering-morels

Conscious eating in an unconscious world. And a love of bacon. Finally, it’s here. Canning season. →. June 6, 2011. Early this year I made three food goals. The third of which was to f. Orage for food in the city. I haven’t found a way to fulfill this goal yet, but others certainly have. Guest blogger Roman Muntener. The bounty of the first pick. We went back for more (again and again). False morel, do not eat! Stay away from false morels that are poisonous (although some people claim that they can prepa...

The Bread Peddler is born…. From the Ground Up. The Final Push →. June 23, 2014. Well, now. What should I say? Tim and I have had a difficult week, and I have been mulling over what details to blog. Should I tell the whole story, tears and lamentations included? Should I gloss over the whole event and pretend it never happened? Should I lie and say we have gone on a holiday for the past week, and have returned reinvigorated and refreshed? Weighing the mortar and water mix exactly to prevent further mishap.

The Bread Peddler is born…. Where There’s Smoke…. July 10, 2014. We’re so close now we can taste it! Er, and taste it we did! Yesterday I made a modified Pain au Levain (aka Holey Hannah), 65% Rye (Ryed On! So, this is the first few days of this week, curing the concrete and insulating the oven. Tim lighting the first small concrete-curing fire. Tim welding the frame which will encase the oven’s insulation. Is there anything that guy cannot do? The Bread Peddler is born…. Newer posts →. From the Ground Up. June 15, 2014. The concrete footing is poured – thanks to Dominique and Heather for the use of their mighty orange cement mixer! Tim and the first few layers of the concrete block plinth. Is he working or just drinking tea? What is he DOING in there? Making the form (or “shuttering” as Tim keeps insisting it is called) for the upper concrete pad – the one on top of which the oven will sit. The oven’s eye view of the inside of the bakery.

The Bread Peddler is born…. Trial by Fire →. Where There’s Smoke…. July 4, 2014. Since I no longer sleep at night due to anxiety and anticipation and nervousness and worry and stress and all those things, the days seem to be a whorl of tasks – some done, some yet to be done, some never to be done at all, I’m afraid. Yesterday was another milestone day – smoke came out of the bread oven’s chimney! WHAT chimney, you say? Our friend Margaret was there to witness the marvel. On to the next adventure. 8230; g...

Life Lessons Learned from Painting Furniture? July 7, 2015. July 3, 2015. Inertia is the name for the tendency of an object in motion to remain in motion, or an object at rest to remain at rest. Simply put, to remain the same, unchanged. Unless, that object is acted upon by an outside force. What has this to do with arts and crafts? The same as with any other endeavor in life.
