Red Thread Notes

Monday, August 10, 2015. I have seen hundreds of Chinese dresses and "pajama" sets, but never anything at all like those from the rural Guizhou sellers. This evening I dug out one of the Guizhou outfits and Rachel brought the paper umbrella she decorated at China Camp and we went outside for a little photo shoot. Beautiful clothes on my beautiful Guizhou girl. Saturday, August 8, 2015. We look at every stand before we make our choices. It's worth it to brave the steamy heat for eye candy like this! We ha...

Red Thread Notes: May 2015

http://redthreadjoy.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Monday, May 25, 2015. My mom's family gathered this evening for their traditional Memorial Day cook out. It was a much smaller group than the gatherings from my childhood, but all the same traditions. Hamburgers and hot dogs. Homemade ice cream. Laughter. Cousins. Bubbles. Always bubbles! My girls and my cousin's kids carried on the bubble tradition and had so much fun. Just like always. Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Katherine auditioned for the area Youth Symphony today. I heard her play before the judges and ...

Friday, August 28, 2015. Scenes from the Driver's Seat. Driving home after a long day,. Past fields of milo. And drying corn,. Cotton in flower and lush rows of soybeans. And hay bales dot the gentle hills. I gaze out the window and sigh in contentment. At the calming beauty. Thursday, August 27, 2015. Glitter Girl and Poppy. Rachel started 2nd grade today. She was SO happy to go back to school. She had new shoes, a new lunchbox, and a new outfit covered in glitter. Monday, August 24, 2015. It's been a l...

Red Thread Notes: Raising Caterpillars

http://redthreadjoy.blogspot.com/2015/08/raising-caterpillars.html

Tuesday, August 4, 2015. We have fennel growing in our untamed and unweeded wildflower bed. It's grown tall, with lacy leaves and delicate yellow flowers. Fennel is edible, although I've never tasted it and have no clue how to prepare it. We don't grow fennel for its food value or beauty or black licorice scent. We grow fennel for one thing only: caterpillar fodder. I can spot 4 in this picture.). The caterpillars are mostly white when they first hatch. And turn yellow and even a little green as they grow.

Red Thread Notes: December 2014

http://redthreadjoy.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Saturday, December 27, 2014. My Rachel makes me laugh each and every day. She is a very literal interpreter of language and looks at the world differently than many people do and the results are often highly entertaining. She has had several interesting observations lately. We were in the car listening to The Twelve Days of Christmas]. Rae: What's a partridge? Joy: It's a bird, kind of like a quail. Rae: What's a turtledove? Joy: Another kind of bird. Rae: Why does this song have so many birds? Rae is on...

Life in a Flash » capturing life one moment at a time. One year gotcha video. Sometimes I look at my sweet little boy and wonder why he has so many things stacked up in front of him. Why does he have to endure so many obstacles when other kids get to run carefree? Why did God give him a lifetime worth of hardships to wade through? What’s His purpose? And while I can’t answer those questions…I can say with surety…God has a plan. Tuckered out after a long, stressful day}. I wouldn’t trade one moment ...

Life in a Flash » capturing life one moment at a time. One year gotcha video. Let’s be friends. We are still reeling here from the aftermath of Danny’s diagnosis. But life seems to have a way of moving on with or without your permission. We are knee deep in research and big decisions regarding his therapies and schooling which means I’m up til the wee hours of the morning and completely slacking in most other areas. The Beast found an egg and wouldn’t give it up! Hope you had a beautiful Easter too!
