It's nice to be semi-retired and not have the pressure to make pots at the expense of everything else. It's a gorgeous blue sky day, not too cold, which makes it very hard to be inside. The firing was fairly good - a bit too hot for some of the ash glazes so quite a few runs and plucks - but overall lots of decent pieces. Now it's back to the wheel and a bit of a push for the June firing. Ash glazed jug. Love how it carbon traps. My favourite jug from this firing. Red shino. Front of the kiln vase with heavy ash. Ash glaze part way down. Great colour on the red shino baby dishes. Red shino faceted bowl.

I've had customers ask me how long it takes to make that mug. So where to start? With mixing the clay, or mixing glazes? How about the wood? Kiln shed is almost full. Postings from Orde Creek Pottery. Wednesday, August 5, 2015. I'm on a roll, gearing up for a firing as soon as it rains. I'm going to have the kiln loaded and ready to go as soon as we get several days of steady downpour. This abnormally long spell of dry, hot weather has got us all a bit nervous. 100's of fires in British Columbia and I don't want to be contributing to them. So pots are drying on their heads/faces and more are coming. Made teapots today that I'll assemble tomorrow. As if time stood still.

I think lilies are their favourites. Lilies from the garden. Yesterday was clear, sunny, and 33 degrees C. (91F). So of course we spent the entire day splitting wood! Starting next week we'll be indoors at Morris Nursery on Erickson Rd until Dec. 20th. Thursday, September 25, 2014. Fingers to the Bone. Trying oval bakers again. Hopefully these won't crack. Really, the matte ash glaze does look quite rock-like. Sort of. Tuesday, October 21, 2014. Best Ever Post-Firing Rest. We had a wonderful time walking and reading and fishing and playing Scrabble. Didn't think about the kiln once. It was so beautiful and soooo relaxing. Then we came home. Even the garbage was beautiful.
