Those penguin days: September 2011
http://thosepenguindays.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Monday, 5 September 2011. I fed her AGAIN, then dumped her on Amps with instructions to beg the nursery to have her, and drop them both off there as soon as possible. He finally left in a torrent of in-and-out, door clanging, baby-screaming, Nina-singing chaos at 10. I got up shortly after that, went to work, and was still tired all day. Probably). Do I feed her to sleep too much? Probably, yes). Should we try 'cry it out' (CIO)? Should we try 'pick up, put down' (PUPD)? Grows, obviously. But what? They ...

Sunday, 31 May 2015. Dangling over the Thames. My view: part London, part mini-gymnast. This is Westminster (the London) and Nina (the gymnast). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Those penguin days: Penguins and giraffes
http://thosepenguindays.blogspot.com/2014/06/penguins-and-giraffes.html
Wednesday, 11 June 2014. Remember was Nina engaging with animals. I'm sure she looked at some. I do remember taking her to see the seals, which were (naturally) swimming around. Their pool area had a gentle artificial wave-maker and I remember watching the seals and her shouting "Mummy look! A door, a splash splash door! She was more interested in the door that pushed the water back and forth to make waves than she was in the seals. Nina still likes the more physical things. Here she is on a swing.

Those penguin days: March 2012
http://thosepenguindays.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 27 March 2012. The baby is walking. She's been wanting to for a while now and the last couple of weekends have been tiring, what with her always wanting someone's fingers to hold on to while she practices. It's cute and endearing, but somewhat inconvenient when you're trying to, say, cook, or just take a minute to go the bathroom, and you find a small cute creature attached to your pants at the knees. And the other child? She sounded out 3 words: fun, nuts, and seeds. (The last were in a coo...

Those penguin days: March 2013
http://thosepenguindays.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 19 March 2013. The last day of 1. This is the last day that I will ever have a one-year-old, barring major changes to the life plan. I watched the two girls in the bath this evening, happily playing, and I thought to myself: what if in a couple of years, there was a 6yo, a 4yo and a 2yo in this tub? Nope But this is the exact age Nina was when I got pregnant with Annika, thinking that it might take a year, that I knew I wanted another child, that I wanted a baby. She loves animals. She sings!

Those penguin days: October 2012
http://thosepenguindays.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Friday, 19 October 2012. After my good long rant the other day about colds, I have made some decisions. Usually I don't take the view that we can really control things. But this. So, here is what I have collected so far, from myself and others:. Handwashing: aggressive, regular, vigorous, proper handwashing. Washing of other people's hands, particularly those people under 4' tall who are likely to insert their hands in my mouth/nose/ears/eyes. Echinacea (particularly when getting a cold). If anyone has a...

Those penguin days: September 2012
http://thosepenguindays.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Monday, 10 September 2012. It was Nina's first ever day of school today! Here she is in her little uniform. She had a good day. She was really. Or any number of things could befall her. Everyone feels this ambivalence, I imagine, or lots of people, anyway (not that she's not brilliant and all that). I know: teachers of four-year-olds don't need to know about sentence fragments, right? But, but, but . it's a school. Up", or papa. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Apophenia Brown's Old Curiosity Shop. Those penguin days: June 2014
http://thosepenguindays.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Thursday, 26 June 2014. How could she already be 6? Nina at her 6th birthday party. She noted that you can count by 9s by going up 10 and then subtracting one, so there's a pattern; that when you do that, you never get to 11, and that when you count by 2s or 3s you also never get to 11. This was Nina at 5 1/2: on her way to discovering primes. But she believes in the tooth fairy. She has lost 3 teeth. My point: Nina is fantastic. Thursday, 12 June 2014. Vegetables, ice cream and innocence. And I think th...
