A girl's journey to find peace in the form of cake. A bundt cake perhaps. Wednesday, August 31, 2011. I was excited to try them out. They turn out to be the prettiest cookies I've made. And delicious. Aunt Georgia's Chocolate Chip Cookies. 1/2 cup butter (or oleo I guess). 1/2 cup vegetable oil. 1/2 cup brown sugar. 1/2 cup white sugar. 1 cup chocolate chips. 1 tsp baking soda. 1/2 tsp salt (I used Kosher because it is yummy). Preheat oven to 375. Tuesday, August 30, 2011. And my husband. It was an a...

Stumbling Towards Bakery: September 2011
http://stumblingtowardsbakery.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
A girl's journey to find peace in the form of cake. A bundt cake perhaps. Friday, September 30, 2011. I like to blame all my inefficiencies on not being allowed to be a boy scout. I consistently lose pine wood derby. I got all my cuts done (first to finish even) and approved by the chef. The knives did claim their victims though. Two girls cut themselves, almost immediately. My time will come. I know this. I am just happy I didn't go first. Tuesday, September 27, 2011. Monday, September 26, 2011. I final...

Stumbling Towards Bakery: And then there was 1
http://stumblingtowardsbakery.blogspot.com/2012/05/and-then-there-was-1.html
A girl's journey to find peace in the form of cake. A bundt cake perhaps. Thursday, May 24, 2012. And then there was 1. I cannot believe how fast this program has gone. It has been such a whirlwind but I feel like I have learned a lot. My skillset has completely changed. What I thought I would hate I ended up loving and vice versa (well, I don't think I hated anything). Wait, no more reminiscing. I can't do that until after this class. The wings were the trickiest part for me. I must have made about ...

Stumbling Towards Bakery: February 2012
http://stumblingtowardsbakery.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
A girl's journey to find peace in the form of cake. A bundt cake perhaps. Tuesday, February 28, 2012. Yesterday it seems like every thing came together at once. We have worked for a week on components of various items and yesterday we finally assembled. We were also surprised to find out that we would be graded on two of the items. We made chocolate souffles as well. They were pretty simple to make. Sunday, February 26, 2012. You can make them savory or sweet depending on your mood. The batter whips ...

Stumbling Towards Bakery: December 2011
http://stumblingtowardsbakery.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
A girl's journey to find peace in the form of cake. A bundt cake perhaps. Thursday, December 22, 2011. NYC, I love thee. I will write a little recap of my very first trip to New York City. Note that my husband blogged about our trip as it was happening so his it better. Really you should just ignore this post and read his. I learned two things on this trip. 1 All stereotypes about NYC are true. 2 NYC is the heart of Christmas. I learned four things about New York. 1 All stereotypes are true. 6 As promise...

Stumbling Towards Bakery: Whirlwind
http://stumblingtowardsbakery.blogspot.com/2012/04/whirlwind.html
A girl's journey to find peace in the form of cake. A bundt cake perhaps. Tuesday, April 24, 2012. My life has been a whirlwind of adventure, hard work, some loss and mostly gain lately. Shortly after my last post my grandfather-in-law died. He was an amazing man. The loss of him was felt deeply in our house and in my husband's whole family. That sort of put our lives on pause for a week while we helped with funeral preparations but it felt really good to be part of the process. April 25, 2012 at 10:14 AM.

Stumbling Towards Bakery: March 2012
http://stumblingtowardsbakery.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
A girl's journey to find peace in the form of cake. A bundt cake perhaps. Tuesday, March 20, 2012. What have I been doing lately? Making cakes of course! Last week in class we made 3 cakes and they were all pretty tasty. First we made a yellow chiffon cake. It was light and fluffy and we filled and covered it with whipped cream. It was basically a cake to practice on. We practiced cutting it into thirds, doing a crumb coat and then mixing pretty colors to decorate it with. Friday, March 9, 2012. I really...

Stumbling Towards Bakery: January 2012
http://stumblingtowardsbakery.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
A girl's journey to find peace in the form of cake. A bundt cake perhaps. Friday, January 27, 2012. Blah, blah, blah. All I talk or think about is bread. Bread, bread, bread. I have started planning my meals around what will go well with the bread I just brought home. The only trouble is, our instructor doesn't abide by the syllabus so I can't plan ahead. I guess that also makes it kind of exciting. New thing of last week - I walked into a bakery I have never been to and inquired about doing a stage.

You Are Where You Eat: Grow Your Own Heirloom Garden
http://eatsustainable.blogspot.com/2014/04/grow-your-own-heirloom-garden-twin.html
You Are Where You Eat. Making the connections between food and sustainability. Saturday, April 12, 2014. Grow Your Own Heirloom Garden. Family heirlooms come in various shapes in sizes. In my family, our heirloom jewels come in the form of garden seeds. During harvest season, my mom carefully saves seeds from the sturdy plants in her prolific garden. You know what I adore about that? Heirlooms come in all shapes, sizes, and varieties, from tomatoes to perennial flowers. If you’re really curious...No prob...
