Chai Chats with the Eichers: End of a cycle
http://andi-sheba.blogspot.com/2015/05/end-of-cycle.html
Saturday, 16 May 2015. End of a cycle. This week Dad finished the end of his first cycle of chemotherapy. 3 doses - given each Wednesday at the Bethany Hospital. Admission on the morning of the dose. The drip into his port. Then the medication is given - with the nurses taking utmost care not to introduce any infections. Think universal precautions cubed. A few hours of rest and then a discharge. We have done this 3 times now - and completed our first cycle. 5 more cycles lie ahead. The blessed normalcy ...
Chai Chats with the Eichers: Summer flowers
http://andi-sheba.blogspot.com/2015/05/summer-flowers.html
Tuesday, 5 May 2015. Summer in Thane has its own joys. Amid the simmering stifling heat, the local trees decide to deck themselves with colour. A few weeks ago there were shimmering purples. Now we have yellows. And then there is the bright redness of the gul-mohar just outside our kitchen windows (pictures taken by our flower loving Oma of course). Yesterday brought a bouquet of flowers of a different kind too. And what flowers did he bring with him? Well - two of his three daughters - who were like sis...
Chai Chats with the Eichers: May 2015
http://andi-sheba.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Thursday, 28 May 2015. Thursday. not quite Chemoday. Last night we met an oncologist. Dad's stand in oncologist (Dr. Bakshi is out of town for a week or so) looked at the blood report from yesterday morning and told him that we would not be starting Dad's second round of chemo. yet. We will doing another complete blood count tomorrow - and if the levels are a bit higher, will start the second cycle of chemo on Saturday morning. Each day is a new challenge. And a new joy. As the Bible puts it:. The reques...
Chai Chats with the Eichers: April 2015
http://andi-sheba.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, 30 April 2015. Dad started his chemotherapy today. I never thought I would write a sentence like that, but here it is in black and white. Dad had his first full dose of chemotherapy - Dr. Ashish Bakshi - our oncologist suggested using a molecule called gemcitabine - and so Mum and Dad arrived in Thane at 3 AM yesterday, and Dad was admitted at Bethany hospital (surprise, surprise - on the 5th floor again! At 10 am to have his chemo-port installed. Where was Dad and Mum? Besides having pancake b...
Chai Chats with the Eichers: September 2014
http://andi-sheba.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 16 September 2014. We have been given art. Real art. The painting kind. Big art. 3 ft by 4 ft. I should know - since I brought it on the train from Delhi - a big package that we stowed up on the top berth - half covering the lights - and then slipped down while sleeping - and then got onto a bus to Thane where the art-work was given a bus ticket as well. Exciting art. Red all over the canvas. Images that challenge you to think. It is a big, challenging painting. It is the sun? The painter has ca...
Chai Chats with the Eichers: August 2014
http://andi-sheba.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 27 August 2014. On the healing of the mind. The year my German grandfather Willi Fischer was born - 1901 - a hospital was started in Thane for the mentally ill. Today it is the largest mental hospital in greater Mumbai's 16 million plus area - a government run hospital on some 72 acres of land in the middle of the city - and with 1450 patients admitted for care and an outpatient load of something like 150 patients per day. What can be done with such numbers? Was the doctor lying? I don't know&...
Chai Chats with the Eichers: January 2015
http://andi-sheba.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 27 January 2015. His name is . Yohan! An aged man was in the middle of a long-sought-after honour. To be in God's holy temple in Jerusalem, presenting the insence to the Lord, laying out the bread, worshipping God Himself on behalf of all the worshippers outside in the massive temple courts. To be the sole priest to go into the actual sanctum sanctorum was something every priest in Israel wanted to do. So going in was governed by casting lots. It was Zecheriah's turn. And then things went strange.
Chai Chats with the Eichers: October 2014
http://andi-sheba.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, 30 October 2014. I am reading "Freedom at Midnight" with Asha and Enoch. It is taking us a long time. Mainly because we used to 'read during lunch' - and now school has reopened so we don't get as much reading time together. But it is also taking a long time because of extraordinary complexities of partition. And yet reading through the book we see a different story. Many different stories. And the multiple possibilities that could have been. No one debates about Godse and co's assassination of...

Reflexioner
Lördag 23 mars 2013. Många moderistiska litterära texter har en tendens att uttrycka den apori som konst i sig numer tycks utgöras av, ett slags uttryck för dess egen omöjlighet. ”The ‘Il faut continuer,’. The conclusion of Beckett’s The Unnamable. Condenses this antinomy to its essence: that externally art appears impossible while immanently it must be pursued.”. På det sätt Anders Johansson diskuterar Adornos tendens att avvärja en utförlig tolkning av Kafka,. Versuch, das Endspiel zu verstehen”,.

A blog dedicated to poetry. Don’t torture me by loving me;. I am more fragile than china. I long to cry. But my pain will forever be secret. I wish you to feel my misery. Yet your sorrow is my death. Captive of its beloved cruelty,. My heart strains against your steel prison. Shedding bloody tears of lost hope,. Wanting to be free of confinement. Yet knowing that freedom is its death.
