La Gran Fuga: December 2011
http://granfuga.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
3 guys go for a bike ride. Thursday, 29 December 2011. La Paz to Potosi – And a few problems! On the road again, an early start today as we have to cover around 550km to Potosi with no decent towns in between for a midway stop, I’ve now renamed the road as ‘The Road of One Thousand Outstretched Hands’. As the whole route is lined with children begging passing travellers with upturned palms or hats. We hit a few problems today,. First we wasted about an hour in Oruro looking for fuel as since the 1. Our t...

La Gran Fuga: November 2011
http://granfuga.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
3 guys go for a bike ride. Wednesday, 30 November 2011. Sun 27th to Mon 28th November. First stop today are the Sipan Tombs about 35 km east of Chiclayo. Off the Pan American and onto Peru's rural road network we left good tarmac for a mixture of pot holes and dirt. The discovery of these tombs in 1987 is considered to be the most important archaeological discovery in the previous 30 years. Load of pottery pots discovered in the tombs. Bob in his rightful place (according to him at least). Whilst the res...

3 guys go for a bike ride. Tuesday, 12 June 2012. David Alan Walker, April 28th 1951 – May 15th 2012. Just seven weeks after our return to the UK it was a sudden and totally unexpected shock to lean that our fellow travel companion Dave Walker collapsed and died while out jogging near his home on the 15th May. Dave was always smiling, a true friend and a great travel companion who towards the end of our 11 month trip was looking forward to being re-united with the love of his life Anne. A Slow Boat Home.

La Gran Fuga: August 2011
http://granfuga.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
3 guys go for a bike ride. Wednesday, 31 August 2011. Playa Azul to Morelia. It was a surprise when the battery actually turned up this morning. Bonus, it was the correct one too, although it took a bit of jiggery pokery to get it in. We were eventually ready to roll around midday after trying to remember where everything packed away on the bikes. Surprising how quickly you forget. If you like the buzz of city life, Morelia is well worth a visit. Apart from all the historical buildings street cafes, ...

La Gran Fuga: July 2011
http://granfuga.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
3 guys go for a bike ride. Sunday, 31 July 2011. Ensenada to El Rosario. Ensanada is a seaside holiday spot with the usual trappings. Our motel was on the main street so we were treated to the sounds of the street entertainers and revellers until the early hours. Bob got into the spirit by trying to replace his lost Peruvian hat. Fortunately none quite fitted the bill. Although we were on the main highway all day, some parts are little better than a dirt track where they are slowly being upgraded. Our fi...

La Gran Fuga: January 2012
http://granfuga.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
3 guys go for a bike ride. Tuesday, 31 January 2012. On To 'Tierra Del Fuego', Ushuaia and The End of The Road. Sunday 29th to Tuesday 31st January. Dave and Bob relax in Punta Arenas before we head to the island of Tierra Del Fuego and our final destination of Ushuaia. We catch the ferry at 09.30 to Povenir and arrive 3 hours later, a very smooth crossing thankfully as we disembark on ‘Land of fire’ (not sure why it’s called this as it’s a bit chilly! Our first sight of Ushuaia, the weather deteriorates...

3 guys go for a bike ride. Monday, 18 April 2011. The Wizard of Leicester. With crash helmet in hand and on my knees (again) to the lovely Anne, I got myself a lift to Leicester to be reunited with the lady I spend all my spare time and money on, at least that’s what I’m always getting told. I just keep blaming Bob and hope I get away with it. What next, well I’m keeping all my fingers and toes crossed that the bike continues to behave impeccably like a lady should! Links to this post. Yes, you read it correctly the return trip from Zarate to Tilbury, London is 29 days! For Bob and Dave it was even longer at 33 days and my embarkation delay has saved me 4 days on board! This is the entrance to Zerate port with the vessel ‘Grande San Paolo’ our home for the next month in the distance, I’ve finally made it and meet up with the other boys. Santos is a large city with many fe...

La Gran Fuga: February 2011
http://granfuga.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
3 guys go for a bike ride. Monday, 21 February 2011. Bike preparation takes time. Skip this if you don't want to know about the bikes. Well I thought a few words on what we have done to the bikes in order to get them ready. Firstly to put you in the picture of the state they were in despite the low readings on the odometer, 13000km. By far the most expensive outlay was for the work done by Ernie of " Overland Solutions". this involved getting the bikes to Sheerness and having a complete new rear subf...
