Women of The Refugee Sewing Society: Tika

http://refugeesewers.blogspot.com/2008/12/tika.html

Women of The Refugee Sewing Society. Tuesday, December 30, 2008. I am Tika from Bhutan. I am married with three kids. I was forced to leave my country and live in a crowded refugee camp for 17 years. There I came across many problems. I’m not educated nor is my husband. Even now we are facing many problems because we have no education, no money, and no jobs. The resettlement program has given me new life and hope. I reached the U.S.A. with my family on June 3rd 2008. Posted by Tim and Cathy Palmer.

Women of The Refugee Sewing Society. Tuesday, December 30, 2008. I was born in Bhutan in the year 1975 in a remote place. The government of Bhutan started beating people and putting them in jail. At that time our fathers and brothers were also taken to jail and told that if they did not leave the country within 10 days, they would be killed. This threat forced our parents to leave the country. Posted by Tim and Cathy Palmer. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Back to The Refugee Sewing Society homepage.

Women of The Refugee Sewing Society. Tuesday, December 30, 2008. I am Leela, a Bhutanese who was born in Chirang district of Bhutan. When I was in pre-primary class, my parents were arrested by the Bhutanese army. After three days, my mother was released but my father was imprisoned for eighteen months. I left Bhutan with my mother and other members as we were compelled by the Bhutanese army. After that I lived a horrific life for 17 years as a refugee in Nepal. Posted by Tim and Cathy Palmer.

Women of The Refugee Sewing Society: Indira

http://refugeesewers.blogspot.com/2008/12/indira.html

Women of The Refugee Sewing Society. Tuesday, December 30, 2008. I lived in camps for about 17 years as a refugee. In camps we didn’t have electricity, proper toilets, or bathrooms. Huts are made of bamboo, thatched roof, and plastic. When there is rain and wind, our huts are destroyed, so we collect bamboo and plastic to rebuild them. Despite these difficulties, I have completed the bachelor level of my studies. Posted by Tim and Cathy Palmer. April 3, 2009 at 3:44 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
