Relatively Retiring

Tuesday, 4 August 2015. Some More Things to Do With Sheep (for Zhoen). In her almost-daily blog posting Zhoen. Has been meditating on a theme of sheep, so I have allowed my own sheepish family to come out of the wardrobe and be photographed in the garden for her. These are TinkaBell bears, made of sheepskin. Teddy bears were their most popular item. Over 70.000 were made annually during the 1960s, and many went to Canada. Many teddy bears are cuddly, but TinkaBells are very butch and straightforward....

Relatively Retiring: Letter to a Granddaughter: Peas in a Pod.

http://relativelyretiring.blogspot.com/2015/07/letter-to-granddaughter-peas-in-pod.html

Monday, 6 July 2015. Letter to a Granddaughter: Peas in a Pod. Dear Small Grand-Daughter,. So, thank you for giving me a weekend to spend with you and your widening horizons, and to give me the realisation that grannies are good things with lots to give, even if they can't run about very much. The question, 'Why? Not kind at all. Then you cooked a few meals in your cottage - fish and cheese with tomatoes and carrot juice - yum! You made a lot of (private) phone calls on the remote control for the old t&#...

Relatively Retiring: July 2015

Saturday, 11 July 2015. In at the Shallow End. Late evening in the kitchen, and the swimming gear dangles, damp and depressing after a bad day in the pool. How I hate this swimming lark, but how determined I am not to be defeated by it all. Then I think, 'Defeat is all right. It will give me more time in the garden'. But no, I will struggle on. I was quite excited when I found out that at my local pool. Recently, in a small warm pool in Wales. Not childish, or rather child-like in the most basically huma...

Relatively Retiring: June 2015

http://relativelyretiring.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Monday, 29 June 2015. Indignant of Middle England. Here I go again.the equivalent of last week's door-to-door pressure selling. Now someone has found me a buyer so I can move house. Well, not really move house, but move into one of their so-called Assisted Living Apartments. This potential sale offers me a worry and hassle free time with no estate agent fees, no removal fees, free valuations, a guaranteed price and a contribution (unspecified) to solicitor fees. You bet! Similarly does anyone suddenly de...

Relatively Retiring: December 2014

Sunday, 28 December 2014. I Saw Three Ships. But not sailing into Bethlehem on Christmas Day in the morning. In fact it's a puzzle as to what geographical/divine intervention made possible this event, but never mind. These three ships were in Bristol harbour on Boxing Day in the morning. Two ferries and a tethered restaurant boat to be precise, but very interesting all the same. Tradition was all around us, centuries of it, tangible. But some different some things I hope will not. Become traditional, for...

http://slightlysinged.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Friday, 22 May 2015. Also, I went to meet other people bereaved by suicide on Wednesday, a small warm group, a space to talk offered as part of a festival of death and dying in our neighbouring town, called Pushing Up Daisies. A marvellous encounter, and the meeting of a need I didn't even know I had. I hope we may meet again. This weekend my brother and my sister will be here. First time we'll all have been together since my Mum's funeral. Sunday, 17 May 2015. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Tuesday, 30 December 2014. All I Have To Do Is Dream. A ukelele has arrived in our home! The inspired Christmas gift from L to both of us. It is red and oh so small! The main problem is my hands are quite big and the frets of a ukelele are small. Watch this space to see if I decide I really must get a guitar again after all these years. Tuesday, 23 December 2014. Easily the best part of Christmas. Okay, loaves are in, soup needs blending. Late lunch today, I think! Sunday, 14 December 2014. Exploring las...

Wednesday, 21 January 2015. About six inches today. It fell and it fell and it fell. We didn't go anywhere. Watched from the window as our car and garden disappeared under soft white curves. And snot, which has hijacked my life for a week now. I will spare you the details. Tissues have been a major part of my life. I can't think or feel properly. Yesterday I thought I was really beginning to recover, but the grade of snot has thickened today (sorry I was sparing you the details wasn't I? Future of my past.

Thursday, 27 November 2014. I could leave it at that. Remembering G telling me how she liked fog. The dampness on my coat, the tiny droplets that day. From G's window another valley she often looked out at while I got my shoes and coat on at the end of the session. Even this time last year. Still then. To be seen, understood, accepted and loved in one's rawness and vulnerability a rare and precious gift. To lose this a raw and aching loss. It goes on and I go on. Wednesday, 26 November 2014. In the end,.

('Paw-HUNG-in-uh' is a close enough pronunciation.). But those rides tend to be irregular, and less common in winter. Now my preferred exercise is a walk up the No. 1 Line track, with the bike rides interspersed so I’m not binge-exercising. When I bike ...

Wednesday, August 12, 2015. Yes, this Summer has been a great Summer. In a flash. here is what happened. 1 Brian turned 50! 2 Brianna went to Camp Loucon. 3 Brianna participated in her first Mission Trip to Indiana. 4 We had the Annual Archer Family Reunion in Pennsylvania. 5 Family Vacation in Panama City Beach. 6 Went to Hershey Park and had a BLAST! 7 Kimberly (me) turned 50 as well. During the entire Summer we spent days and weekends at Beech Bend playing in the water. This will be a great school year.
