The Reluctant Sydneysider

Sunday, November 13, 2011. Blue Bottle Tops, Blue Bottles, Blue Skies, Blue Petals. Things I like about Sydney No. 65: Blue Bottle Tops, Blue Bottles, Blue Skies, Blue Petals and All Things Blue. Everything is a little hectic at the moment. My prolonged absence from my right and proper task - creating entries for The Reluctant Sydneysider. My days in Sydney are numbered. Well, that and the very blue weekend I have just spent down South in Berrara with our friends Karilyn and Tanja. One with the entrails ...

The Reluctant Sydneysider: June 2011

http://reluctantsydneysider.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Friday, June 24, 2011. Getting the ferry to Ken's. Things I like about Sydney No. 60: Getting the ferry to Ken's. Greenwich boasts both a ferry stop and Greenwich Baths, a sea-water swimming pool which opens for the summer months but which presents a rather sorry picture at this time of year:. Then there is the Greenwich Sailing Club (if you are of the yachting persuasion) which is always deserted during the week (no doubt because those who can afford a yacht have to put in some. More often than not, free.

The Reluctant Sydneysider: January 2011

Tuesday, January 25, 2011. The Queen Victoria Building. Things I like about Sydney No. 47: The Queen Victoria Building (or, as they must have it in hideous modern parlance, the QVB). Slap bang in the centre of the so-called Central Business District of Sydney, taking up an entire block along the main thoroughfare George Street, from Park Street to Market Street, stands the magnificent, incomparable Queen Victoria Building. Ordinarily, you wouldn't see beyond your nose for shoppers. Here they are, recentl...

Monday, September 20, 2010. Captain Danny's Lobster Thermidor. Things I like about Sydney No. 35: Lobster Thermidor. Last night, Captain Danny (a moniker he earned whilst we were on a canal boat holiday in Yorkshire some moons ago and somehow fitting here in waterside Sydney) made me my first Lobster Thermidor. I wanted to know. And now I do. Sort of. It's all rather complicated. The recipe is named after a play by Victorien Sardou which was in turn named after a summer month in the Frenc...Which was in ...

So, having read the previous blog of reasons to make a carry on on Stir Up Sunday (it was last Sunday but don't worry, it's not too late) here is the recipe for the cake. Gather ye dried fruit and nuts and spices and a loose-bottomed 12 inch cake tin and a little one for you to have your own extra cake. 150g dark muscovado sugar. If you have one.

For those who are unaware of the actual dates of the actual seasons in Northern Europe, Spring begins on the 21st March which means today. Surely Perfect Chocolate Mousse can't need a course, I thought, and went back to the organic seed potato order (if you are interested click. Ose love of potatoes is beyond the devotional. Thangam Bakery and Coffeeshop. Well reasoned rants (and recipes). Wednesday, October 13, 2010. The Bakery Called and the Today Programme answered.Hot press! 65279;A couple of days ago. As part of their week long exploration of fairness in public sector cuts, the feature today was about the impact on women. I clutched my knitting (I am knitting my nephews and nieces a university to go to) and listened with bated breath. Then at 8.19am. Anna Bird was on the air (. Thangam Bakery and Coffeeshop. Well reasoned rants (and recipes). Saturday, January 23, 2010. Thangam Bakery and Coffeeshop part 1: It's no trifle. All butter Madeira cake. Might as well buy two, you will probably need more than one if you are catering for a sociable party of greedy sods, then you can scoff some spare bits and have enough for a cheeky secret extra one just for you to eat in the morning. A jar of fine jam. Couple of glasses of good fruit juice. Bananas, mango, grapes, peach, strawberries.

Thangam Bakery and Coffeeshop. Well reasoned rants (and recipes). Monday, December 26, 2011. Hoysala days in Malgudi country. Hoysalas were rulers of a fairly small part of South India during the 12th and 13th centuries, around Hassan and Mysore, in what is now Karnataka. They weren't pacifists exactly (how else do you get to be a ruler in those days? And then do eighty-odd sets of others? Sunset view of palace, Green Hotel, Mysore. August 29, 2013 at 3:20 AM. And also near by place bandipur resorts.

Thangam Bakery and Coffeeshop. Well reasoned rants (and recipes). Saturday, March 13, 2010. Short, flaky, sweet or savoury, it will get you extra points. The ranting will be short this week. I have given my all, ranting wise, it has been a good week for it, with enough to go on. I can give no more. Will soon look like this. Good tart recipes abound in Tamasin Day-Lewis' "The Art of the Tart",. Of savoury and sweet varieties. I heartily recommend it. 200g Plain flour, 1oog butter (for 12in/30cm tin) or 15...

I said this blog would be rant free and this was partly a test, to see if this is possible. I am. Trade will clearly take time but will work better with charm rather than ranting. Springtime flowers signalling May showers (is that a real well known phrase or saying or did I just make it up? Or at least a hung parliament. Where does everyone live in these circumstances? Do Clegg, Cameron and Brown get to play scissors paper rock over who gets Number 10, Number 11 and the shed at the bottom of the garden? Ah, Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, how can you do this?

If Pandora hadn’t been curious, there would be nothing to write about. When I arrived at the Philadelphia PHL airport to board flight 124 Southwest Airlines on the morning of July 18, 2008, I had to show my boarding pass and drivers license to an initial screener. Then I got in line for the scanner and metal detector. I placed my boarding pass in the grey box for shoes while I took off my shoes. On the other side, I did not have my boarding pass. This makes no sense and I object to being treated like this.
