Requiem for Innocence

Thursday, December 6, 2012. As the Days Grow Shorter. The nights come early and the sun comes late. Our days grow shorter still. And in this cold I ponder my fate. While inward creeps the chill. For now I fear I am all alone. And she so far away. As the wind through dying branches moans. And I wait for the day. Soon the days will be lengthened. Anon I will see my love. My heart will then be strengthened. By the one I'm dreaming of. Together we shall celebrate. Our Lord and Savior's birth. So I focus on t...

Requiem for Innocence: Where Have You Gone?

http://www.requiemforinnocence.blogspot.com/2012/09/where-have-you-gone.html

Friday, September 21, 2012. Where Have You Gone? Where have you gone, my darling girl? So far away from me. Over mountains, across the world. Far beyond the sea. To spend your days with other men. To see the sights alone. While here I wait and think of you. Wishing you safely home. Where have you gone, my darling maid? To a land of tapas and wine. In a city, many countries away. To travel museums, churches, and squares. To learn a foreign land. Navigating your way through the alien. Whether small or grand.

Requiem for Innocence: An Ocean of Insanity

http://www.requiemforinnocence.blogspot.com/2012/10/an-ocean-of-insanity.html

Friday, October 5, 2012. An Ocean of Insanity. I'm desperately treading water in an ocean of insanity. Trying to keep my head above the level of the sea. But a storm is coming and the waves are getting higher. And every moment longer my situation is more dire. I fear that I will sink, that I will be sucked down below. Into a madness that will drag me deep, like an undertow. Two more weeks I need to last, then another and then three. And afterward I'll have sunk or swum in my own insanity.

Requiem for Innocence: Perception in Relation

http://www.requiemforinnocence.blogspot.com/2012/10/perception-in-relation.html

Wednesday, October 10, 2012. The world of our own perception. The life we see all around. Our own sense of conception. Of seeing and of sound. Of feeling, smelling, tasting,. Of being present now. And then fully embracing. Whither the 'why's and 'how's. To dream of the one you wish to see. But not forget in the moment still to be. To plan the future you'll walk together. Come fire or famine or stormy weather. And still rejoice in the day to day. The seconds that you can both steal away.

Crosses and Cradles: May 2012

http://offhandshooting.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 29, 2012. Word and Question, Again. I promise I'm working on prose things too. But until they are ready, I want to make sure I get this one up before the end of the month. Question: What was your first concert? Come along," said my roommates. So we did, my lady and I. Across the border, into another state. To hear songs I didn't know too well. A few I did, "Broken Road" for one. Before it was stolen by others to sell. And turned into a country song. They saved the best for last, of course.

Crosses and Cradles: August 2012

http://offhandshooting.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Saturday, August 18, 2012. Ever onward," he thought. That was what his grandfather had always said. It was the motto of a life well lived. His skin tingled with something like anticipation, with the dread of what was coming. From his breast pocket he took a silver chain with a small medallion on the end of it. The source of all his hope, and all his uncertainty, lay in that small, swinging object. He took another drink. We are sooo pissed right now," he slurred in a bad accent. A gift, from an old friend...

Crosses and Cradles: April 2014

http://offhandshooting.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Monday, April 21, 2014. Back Across the Prairie. Lily sat at the hotel bar and watched the clouds roll down off of the mountains. He would be up there in the thick of it now, under that makeshift tent with a bottle and a cigarette. She hoped he wasn't cold without her. I'm going back," she said. Ain't you gonna say anything? She asked after a while. He took a drag on the cigarette. "I'll drop you in the next town.". You aren't coming back with me? All the way to New York," said the driver. She was a ...

Crosses and Cradles: Shattered Words

http://offhandshooting.blogspot.com/2014/05/shattered-words.html

Tuesday, May 27, 2014. Yes, this is how I express myself. With words because I can't make you see the symbols in my head, because the deep structures of thought and soul cannot be drawn or modeled except by words. A pity they are such fragile things, but then so are our souls. They shatter and we pick them up and hand them to our Maker. "Reassemble? We beg but we cannot be reassembled. Not quite. It's not complete, it's not consistent, and it's missing so much, but there are things I like, so here it is. The First and Last to Leave. Wing it, you said. There are plenty of hostels, you said. You'll just take whatever comes, you said. Well, you got any ideas? Calm down, it's early, you'll be all right.". No I won't, I will not be f-". Do I get to keep talking to myself in public? He tho...

Fascination: The Jean Rollin Experience

Monday, May 25, 2015. A Look At Jean Rollin's THE ESCAPEES on Blu-ray. When Redemption released Jean Rollin's Les Paumees Du Petit Matin (The Escapees). Back in 2009 on DVD the disc felt a bit like of a Godsend for fans. After all, The Escapees. Was a bit of a mess. Flash forward nearly six years later and Redemption (partnered with Kino Lorber) has re-released The Escapees. Is a cold and somber film" and, while I still agree partially with that, this new release shows that The Escapees. The problem's wi...
