mondo mechanika: No dyce
http://mondomechanika.blogspot.com/2015/06/no-dice.html
Monday, 22 June 2015. Triumph, Harley and (yes! Honda dealer Skip Fordyce set up shop in 1941 in Riverside, California after a career in daredevil riding during the 1930s. Within a few years and following a move to larger premises at 3698 14th Street, Fordyce was popularly credited with having America’s largest motorcycle dealership. The Fordyce Riverside Harley dealership was sold in 2013. 9 March 2016 at 23:53. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). CZ Owner's Manual Sport 250 350. Models 471, 472. Comple...

mondo mechanika: Royal Enfield Bullet Lucas ammeter ‘conversion’ – free
http://mondomechanika.blogspot.com/2014/12/royal-enfield-bullet-lucas-ammeter.html
Tuesday, 23 December 2014. Royal Enfield Bullet Lucas ammeter ‘conversion’ – free. Ladies and gentlemen, the Royal Enfield instrument panel – 'casquette' in Enfield speak – the Redditch company's take on Triumph's nacelle, shown here in its largely faithful Indian-built incarnation. Largely, because there's a couple of glaring exceptions to its appearance and it isn't difficult to guess which they are…. For many owners, riding. I fall somewhere between the two: I like period appointments but I'm cheap an...

mondo mechanika: British bulldog and the Terrier

Monday, 16 March 2015. British bulldog and the Terrier. A useful source of warmth for the homeless, computing time for those working phishing scams while maintaining anonymity, cheap DVD rentals to pass the days for the out-of-work and drug-addled, and a source of employment and social interaction for terminally unmarriageable wallflowers of both sexes. 8220;To the library, chaps! The central library in my town is, perhaps, better than most in that it has more than a few ( books. Other than seeing the gl...

mondo mechanika: Seat ’n low
http://mondomechanika.blogspot.com/2015/07/seat-n-low.html
Thursday, 9 July 2015. Seat ’n low. In common with many enduro- and adventure-styled bikes, the F800GS is a tall machine. Seat height from the factory is 880mm (35 inches), significantly taller than a typical sports bike or cruiser (a ‘standard’ Sportster is just under 28 inches, a classic Enfield Bullet about the same). OE seat height is a stretched 880mm. BMW offers a number of suspension and other options to reduce the height but the simplest is the OE low seat. New, the low seat is a free factory...

mondo mechanika: June 2015
http://mondomechanika.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Monday, 29 June 2015. Yes, cheap pun.). Regular visitors to mondo. Will recall that I recently returned to modern two-wheeled motoring with a BMW F800GS ‘adventure’ bike – think big trailie, enduro etc – which was something of a sea change following several years astride 1950s ’cycles. Different experience – like moving from a very small thing to…er, something quite a bit bigger. But that’s it. I can’t fault the machine otherwise, it’s glorious. Time for a rummage. First find was indeed hand guards, in t...

Monday, 30 March 2015. But what a book! The Original Wild Ones, Tales of the Boozefighters Motorcycle Club. MBI Publishing Co, 2005). Frankly, it’s not a great. And anyway, blame the bloody weather for the endless procession of postings not featuring rides-out. At my age, warmth and comfort have replaced a dedication to Riding That Knows No Limits. But back to the book. All aboard for boozy biking fun. But back to the book (again). But back (once again) to the book. Boozemobile complete with converted tr...

Tuesday, 27 January 2015. Around the world in 600cc – Robert Edison Fulton Jr and the Douglas T6. Robert Edison Fulton Jr: 40,000 miles on a Douglas T6. If you can be arsed to look, there's a Wiki page devoted to long-distance bikers here. Harcourt, Brace and Co, New York, 1937). Fulton's account places him at a dinner party in London in 1932 during which, when asked what he planned to do now his studies were at an end, responded completely out of the blue: "Go around the world on a motorcycle! mondo mechanika: The capacity to see beauty (…in a Royal Enfield Model CO)
http://mondomechanika.blogspot.com/2015/01/the-capacity-to-see-beauty-in-royal.html
Friday, 9 January 2015. The capacity to see beauty (…in a Royal Enfield Model CO). Kafka said that. At least, the bit which doesn't include the Royal Enfield Model CO. Understandable really. He (Kafka) offered it as the defining quality of 'youth'. Shown here, a youth and a Model CO. It seems pretty clear who can see the beauty in what. Youth is happy because it has the capacity to see beauty…". Apposite really. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). CZ Owner's Manual Sport 250 350. Models 471, 472. The Bla...

Friday, 27 February 2015. Attending to Tomos #1: chain. If it looks like this you'll probably need a new one. You can be pretty sure any machine that's sat around for a while unloved will have need of serious chain maintenance and my little Tomos was no exception. The secondary drive chain was stiff, dirty and seized in several links. Moped motive matter: the ubiquitous 415 chain. To shorten the chain, count backwards by the required factor, mark the link to be removed with chalk and set to with a link s...
