Resilient Unchewable Center

The center bites back! Tuesday, November 08, 2011. The market's saying: borrow and invest. There are macroeconomic reasons for the federal government to run a deficit right now: slow growth, high unemployment, interest rates near zero. In the current environment fiscal policy is needed to stimulate the economy, as argued by Paul Krugman. There is also a microeconomic argument, as Ezra Klein. Posted by Glenn Cassidy. Resilient Unchewable Center: July 2011

http://www.resilientunchewablecenter.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

The center bites back! Friday, July 08, 2011. The Secret Flagellants of Thuringia. If ever I have my own Goth band, I want to call it The Secret Flagellants of Thuringia. Until this morning, I had never thought of connecting the name to CNBC. I made the mistake of watching CNBC with breakfast, waiting for the employment report, which shows job growth alarmingly weak. Calls them - want to inflict more pain on the unemployed and underemployed, but not on themselves. Posted by Glenn Cassidy. Of course I'm t...

The center bites back! Monday, September 14, 2009. One more health insurance link. You may have noticed that President Obama said more than 30 million people are uninsured in the United States, versus the 46 to 47 million estimate more widely cited. Clearly, 46 million is more than 30 million. Anthony Wright. At The New Republic explains why Obama chose the 30 million number. Verifies, the legislation in the House specifically bars spending any public money on illegal aliens. Posted by Glenn Cassidy.

Resilient Unchewable Center: October 2009

The center bites back! Sunday, October 04, 2009. Never watch hamburgers or legislation being made. A very disturbing article in today's New York Times. The beef they send. For example, a spokesman for Costco says that Tyson will not ship ground beef to Costco because Costco insists on testing all incoming shipments for pathogens, and Tyson does not allow any of its customers to test for pathogens. This is legal? A Consumer Financial Protection Agency (CFPA) would take responsibility for regulating the sp...

Angles and Rhymes: New poem published

http://anglesandrhymes.blogspot.com/2010/09/new-poem-published.html

Science, Politics, Poetry. Monday, September 13, 2010. My poem, "Infinitely Annoyed" is now online at Prime Number Magazine, issue 2.5. I'm confident Miss Shenuski would have been as annoyed as I was by the guy next to me on the bus. Thanks to her I put my time to productive use composing this poem instead of banging the guy over the head with my backpack. Posted by Glenn Cassidy. September 16, 2010 at 7:38 PM. Angles and Rhymes: March 2011

http://anglesandrhymes.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Science, Politics, Poetry. Thursday, March 31, 2011. Is now online at Referential Magazine. An online journal with an interesting twist - many of the works on the site refer to specific phrases or images of other works already on the site. I thought this poem about coffee went well with the coffee in another poem on the site, and the editor, Jessie Carty, liked my poem, so it's up now and it links from the word coffee. In the earlier poem. The poem itself is somewhat of a reaction against the words.

Science, Politics, Poetry. Friday, November 11, 2011. Roast Butternut Squash Soup. I made this for the first time yesterday and was quite pleased with the result. 1 butternut squash, peeled and cut into one-inch chunks. 2 small onions or 1 medium. 3 cloves garlic, peeled, whole. 1 medium apple peeled, cored, and diced (I prefer Granny Smith or McIntosh, but any will do.). 2 teaspoons fresh ginger, grated or finely chopped. 2 leaves fresh sage. Salt and pepper to taste. Posted by Glenn Cassidy. The "Blog"...
