Resplendent Island - Serendip. Wednesday, March 22, 2006. Arrived in Sri Lanka. I flew into Colombo, capital of Sri. This afternoon. this is the last job after emailing family and friends. I am staying fairly central next to a really picturesque lake. We have got a full month of VSO. Training in language and cultural background, looking forward to it. There are only four of us volunteers so very personal. Training, for me learning Tamil I am on my own with two teachers, so no excuse for not learning it!

Resplendent Island - Serendip. Tuesday, April 12, 2005. I started the VSO process in April 2005 I filled out the paperwork and attended an assessment day in June 2005. The assessment day when I did it was held in the VSO offices in Putney, London. I was part of a group of about 20 people, we were split into two smaller groups and did the usual group thing of introducing ourselves. We then did a couple of group teamwork exercises. Yes you did read that properly, Tumu is now the proud foster parents of a full grown male hippopotamus. I was taking an afternoon nap on Saturday (as you do in hot countries! Apparently a hippopotamus had found its way into Tumu dam. I was determined next time to get it. and what a picture it is! Can you see it?
