My name is John Carnochan. I was cop for about 39 years, and in 2005, I co-founded the Violence Reduction Unit, situated within what was then Strathclyde Police. I want to tell the story of how Karyn McCluskey and I managed to set up a violence reduction unit within a police force. Why would a police force be interested in babies? That’s an important story to tell because, in 2005, interpersonal violence in Scotland was high, and despite the heroic efforts of a lot of people, it was not getting any better.

Responding was a month-long project held during the summer of 2011 in the Bloordale district of Toronto. Its architecture, art, poetry, playgrounds and dance components came together to culminate as a feature event of the July 23 24, BIG On Bloor Festival.
