I am now in a book. From Canada was the final contributor (besides me). She did some collage and some writing, and a little paper engineering with a dear little paper cut door opening from Ex Libris. Nathalie writes: "The doorway to the chapter I am now in is a book, but a book that led me to the internet. And blogging. A student gave me a copy. It had frightened me and it still overwhelms me, but in it I have found a nook that makes me feel at home. Could not have been created without the vast internet.

Response: June 2011

http://responsebook.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Letterpress printer, Ampersand Duck. Contributed a sweet open page like a breath of fresh air. She is Canberra based, and one of my heroes, so I was thrilled to have her contribution, which did not disappoint. Posted by Meliors Simms. After a lengthy sojourn in Asia, while I didn't know where it was, who had it or if it would ever return, Response eventually came back to me. I immediately passed it onto my collaborator in Frugal with the Brughel, an altered book project. Posted by Meliors Simms. The next...

This is the front cover of the Response book- I used an early proof of my most recent letterpress project. I had hoped to be the first contributor to sully the snowy blank pages of the Response book, but alas, I have run out of time in Australia. Since I am in a panic of trying to reduce my luggage weight by 9 kg I'm not including a blank book that I would be posting back to Australia within 2 weeks. Has come to my rescue and offered to make the first Response within 2 weeks of today! Let's respond intui...

Response: How I love an imperative!

http://responsebook.blogspot.com/2011/06/how-i-love-imperative.html

How I love an imperative! From Hamilton, New Zealand's largest inland city, to the other inland city of the North Island, Palmerston North. The next contributor was Helen Lehndorf. Mother of two boys and tutor of creative writing (I've left out quite a few other remarkable talents and pastimes, so follow the links to find out more). My favourite part of Helen's spread is "I find anthropomorphism super-creepy. I like my tigers bootless and wild, wild wolves.". Posted by Meliors Simms. 8221; we leave behi.

Response: Imperative

http://responsebook.blogspot.com/2011/06/imperative.html

Inside the front cover are the directions. The only direction that wasn't consistently followed was "you have two weeks to respond". It took two and a half years to fill this book. But its finally complete. I will be sharing photographs of its entirety on this blog over the coming weeks. Posted by Meliors Simms. A little book for sharing intuitive, uncensored, sensitive, observant, interactive, collaborative, inspired responses in two dimensions. 8221; we leave behi. Paper doll fanzine (MFMM). William Bu...

Bibliophilia: Spoils at draw.inc

http://meliors.blogspot.com/2013/10/spoils-at-drawinc.html

Meliors Simms : Living in the Anthropocene. Wednesday, October 09, 2013. Spoils at draw.inc. Stuart Shepherd's ice penguin (foreground) and Dispersant (background). There is still at least a week left to see my work in the Spoils exhibition at draw.inc in Hamilton. My two large textile installations share the gallery spaces with Stuart Shepherd's sculptures, conducting a lively conversation about oil and mining, asset sales and climate change. Catching shadows and a breeze. After we packed up, I put the ...

Meliors Simms : Living in the Anthropocene. Thursday, March 20, 2014. I am interested to see that quilter Kathryn Clark. Is simultaneously developing another textile vocabulary of quilt patterns to address ". Issues like climate change, the digital era, migration, water and food security, etc.". Her vision of creating. A body of work to start the conversation. Is so aligned with my own vision, yet expressed more explicitly that I am inspired by her generosity. Posted by Meliors Simms. Look what I made.

Meliors Simms : Living in the Anthropocene. Tuesday, August 05, 2014. The moment I spotted this book. I would never have dared to try making my own panniers without finding Lisa Lam's book with her detailed and well-illustrated instructions. I might not have dared to tackle Lisa Lam's pannier pattern without roping in Anna, to make it a collaborative project. Lets spend your school holidays making ourselves pannier bags! Capacious insides lined with beautiful brassicas. Posted by Meliors Simms. Te Kowhai...

Meliors Simms : Living in the Anthropocene. Monday, July 01, 2013. Beginning a Plastic-Free July. Oh the irony that on this, the first day of the Plastic Free July Challenge. Bottles of worm wee. What is the Plastic-Free July challenge? If we intend to reuse a yoghurt container multiple times after the product is consumed is it still considered single use? Does consume mean just not buying, or not using up products already purchased in their single use plastic? I whipped some up which tastes pretty bad s...

Bibliophilia: Parental Discretion Advised

http://meliors.blogspot.com/2013/08/parental-discretion-advised.html

Meliors Simms : Living in the Anthropocene. Friday, August 30, 2013. We are frugal with both Brueghel the Elder and Brueghel the Younger. Bethwyn putting the finishing touches of Peepshow: Books and Competitors. Other books are based on cloth-bound adult non-fiction, and with so many more pages to fill, they may never be finished. Three of these 'works in progress' will be included in our exhibition. We started Handsome Man Maintenance. And Am I Woman or Lady: Pages of Fun. And The New Book of Kitchen Sex.

Meliors Simms : Living in the Anthropocene. Monday, May 19, 2014. Hey, I restocked and reopened my Etsy store. It's a been a good couple of years since I paid it any attention, but like so many things on the internet it was all still there waiting for me to click a few buttons. Due to my camera problems I haven't added anything new to Etsy that I've made since 2012, like my fresh off the letterpress capitalism stickers. Basic Book Craft Skills zine. Posted by Meliors Simms. Meliors Simms : Living in the Anthropocene. Monday, September 22, 2014. My appliqued banner is the lead photo in the Element. Magazine article about the Auckland People's Climate March on Sunday! I'm not going to let a third term National government make me passively despair. I feel like the election result is an incentive to be more active in building a resilient community around me, and to be much more visible in opposition to climate-change-inducing activities. Long time blog followers may recognise t...

http://meliors.blogspot.com/2014/10/yarn-bombing-environment-centre.html

Meliors Simms : Living in the Anthropocene. Sunday, October 05, 2014. Yarn Bombing the Environment Centre. Caitlin, quietly absorbed in yarn bombing. The Waikato Environment Centre recently located from a cramped, dark, upstairs office in the centre of town to a spacious, light-filled storefront plus warehouse in a busy shopping area near my house. To celebrate their new home they held an open day on Saturday. I had no prior knowledge of the latter two topics). Brenda and her mokopuna yarn bombing.

Meliors Simms : Living in the Anthropocene. Monday, July 21, 2014. Where are all the letterpress cats? Inspired by the good times we had at the Hamilton Zinefest, Phil and I have made a new zine which we took up to the Auckland Zinefest last weekend. Our letterpressed zine, all set with moveable type and printed on the big proofing press at Black Fox Press, is called Anti Social Media. Anti Social Media No. 1. Phil ready to welcome people to the Black Fox Press/Bibliophilia table. Wallis at six months.

Just another WordPress.com site. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. I am……. June 22, 2012. The Police are good at a lot of things. I have to admit however, they are terrible at others. It’s only now that I can write about something that has been hanging over my head for the past fifteen months, because only now is it finally over. I leisurely made my way in the general direction with another colleague, turning out from the station. No rush at the minute. Then another call. 8220;Yeah, fur...
