Monday, August 25, 2014. During the day, Kansas is hot. Triple digits. Each night we sleep outside we need to look east to make sure there is a barrier, to protect the tent from turning into an insufferable sauna the moment the morning sun peeks malevolently over the horizon. For a northerner like myself, the idea of being outside during the hottest hours, 2-6pm, is anathema. I have developed a sympathy for Dracula. Friday, October 10, 2014. If a bike could speak. The stack of gear behind me is getting higher and higher. I sent home my deer skull when I got the fiddle. Playing for rivers and fields. On a bike every pound counts, and the form of what you carry is somewhat preordained by pannier shape and attachment areas. I am taking a harder road. I am declaring my willingness of suffer more work for what I love. I couldn't be more delighted. Staying in a bedroom in a barn above the horses, and playing music for them.
