We will get there…. June 9, 2014. RETRO POST: Torn Between the Two. How does that even happen, when all their desires and strivings were only to make it better? Shouldn’t it have worked? Shouldn’t this have done the trick? I am torn between two. Do I focus on self-healingor do I focus on God. Are they mutually exclusive, or can I do one, as well as the other? Can God still use and touch me even though my tortured past haunts me every dark night? But pondering that only brings frustration. Regardless,...

We will get there…. Doubt’s Irrelevance to Truth. I remember speaking with an atheist friends of mine on the subject of existence and origin, and I spoke of there needing to be a source of all things. His response, which resonates with my doubts as well as much of modern thought was, Couldn’t it all just have been by chance? What if it was? I stopped, annoyed, and said, Yes, of course it could have , but what bearing does that have on truth? August 4, 2014. August 14, 2014 at 10:56 am. You are commenting...

We will get there…. Month: April, 2014. April 28, 2014. So then, if modern-day idol worship isn’t obsession with worldly things, what is it? As we said earlier, we don’t bring our firstborn to molech any more, or worship images of Ba’al. What than is idol worship? April 25, 2014. The Odd Dichotomy of Western Christian Thought. If everyone/thing around you tells you that the supernatural or unknowable is foolish, at what point does that all-encompassing skepticism apply to your own faith? April 21, 2014.

Should Christian Dads have Full Time Jobs? – Theism, After Lunch.

Theism, After Lunch. A Hangry Theology Will Not Do. Should Christian Dads have Full Time Jobs? March 21, 2015. March 21, 2015. By S Kyle J. In some Christian environments it is sometimes a question whether or not women can carry full-time jobs. Few today would say that it is completely and always wrong for women to work. Few would say that only men can work and women must be homemakers. But it is, in some minds, not an ideal. I am also worried about this, however:. Where are the dads? Aside from the fact...

Learning how to See. Thirty years ago a movement was birthed. It started with a handful of people who dreamt of making a difference in the lives of children living in urban poverty. Eventually, they planted a preschool. It failed. But by the grace of God they didn’t give up. They went through periods of trial and error and re-evaluation, but they never lost their vision to provide quality education for all children. Thirty years later this movement has planted over four hundred schools and over forty chu...

Friday, July 17, 2015. Everything Will Be Alright: Overcoming Christian Whiteness. By Josiah R. Daniels. In rapper Kendrick Lamar’s newest music video Alright. Kendrick puts visual imagery to themes he has been working with for quite some time; black nihilism/resiliency, police brutality, the new Jim Crow. Life in the ghetto and the fragility of black life. Like the entirety of To Pimp a Butterfly. Warning: some readers may consider language or images in the following video to be graphic.]. To shoot Kend...

Theism, After Lunch. A Hangry Theology Will Not Do. On One’s Last Year of Seminary. November 2, 2014. November 3, 2014. By S Kyle J. Seminary has been a lesson in all that I have not learned. It has been a preparation in identifying my own unpreparedness. It has been worthwhile if for no other reason than to realize how unworthy I am. 8220;Those who come close to people in pain, naturally draw near to God, because God is always by the side of His children who are in pain.” -Elder Paisios. The God-Forsaken Table. – Theism, After Lunch.

Theism, After Lunch. A Hangry Theology Will Not Do. November 21, 2014. By S Kyle J. God is not a box of honey-nut cheerios. God does not invite the happy or the healthy to his meal. Christ came to those in need of a physician: The sick, the friendless, and the needy. God is most glorified when we are happy, delighted, at peace. I’ve heard a message of this sort many times. I’m not supposed to be upset in front of God. God wants me to trust, to rest, to be happy. Why are we so adverse to mourning with God?
