Monday, July 25, 2011. July Project Blogroll - What are you working on? This month's blogroll of the Aspiring Metalsmiths Team we're showing what we are currently working on. And there is that word, currently. Are all the half-finished, half-started things on my bench included in this? Or just the items that I have actually touched recently? Upper left: stones, half finished rings, and PMC stuff in progress. Upper right: my dish with some scrap, findings, solder, small stones. Below are some miscellaneou...

Mary Anne Karren Studio. The stories of an aspiring metal artist. A Really Big Project. My biggest work-in-progress started with a view and has gone on for about four years now. My husband, Bill, and I were shopping for a house. The first time I visited this particular house, it was a foggy, miserable January day and this is all I saw:. The second time we visited the house, it was a crisp clear winter day, and all we saw was this:. What a view from the front yard! That yard had nothing but potential.

Things beginning with C..: Creating a stir!
http://brightstar109.blogspot.com/2011/07/creating-stir.html
Things beginning with C. Thursday, 28 July 2011. Wow, this month seems to be rushing by in a blur! A couple of weeks ago I was called by the local newspaper who were updating their directory, the man I spoke to was very chatty and after checking his information asked "Just what do you actually make? I simply told him I was a silversmith. After I hung up the phone I suddenly thought, am I really? This post was part of the Aspiring Metalsmiths' Blogroll. I hope you have enjoyed it and if you have, plea...

Lilian Ginebra Jewelry: Drilling and Soldering with Sea Glass
http://girllovesglitter.blogspot.com/2012/02/drilling-and-soldering-with-sea-glass.html
Thursday, February 2, 2012. Drilling and Soldering with Sea Glass. First, you'll need to find yourself some sea glass. The best beaches for finding sea glass are beaches near old city dumps or beaches where the sand is pebbly. If it's not too cold, wade out a little to where the waves crash.that's where the best sea glass can be found. Also.get there early before other beach combers take all the beautiful cobalt blue! Drilling the sea glass:. After your solder flows.walk away! Rinse in warm water.the...

Lilian Ginebra Jewelry: What I'm working on right now.....
http://girllovesglitter.blogspot.com/2011/07/what-im-working-on-right-now.html
Sunday, July 24, 2011. What I'm working on right now. As usual, I'm working on tons of different things at once. These gemstones will soon be made into rings. Rose Quartz, Carnelian. The new rings will look similar to this ring, but I may wrap them in solid gold bezels. I'm in the design stage with a couple stones. This one is a hand cut Ray Mine Chrysocolla from Laura of Cabbingrough. The little wheel looking things will actually be poppies. I'll stamp and dome the silver and add a center ball. I just w...

Contemporary Jewelry by Beatriz Fortes: Metalworking soundtrack
http://cjbf.blogspot.com/2011/03/metalworking-soundtrack.html
Monday, March 21, 2011. Once again, it is Aspiring Metalsmith blogroll time! Each month, we agree on a theme and each of us shows our own perspective on it. This month, we talk about what we listen to while working on the bench. Like most, what I listen to depends on my mood and what type of work I am doing. Sometimes, it is relaxing and soothing. At others, it is driven and rythmic. And occasionally, it is just plain silly. I admit my music selection is unusual, but I love it! Happy Tortoise Designs -.

Mary Anne Karren Studio. The stories of an aspiring metal artist. By Mary Anne Karren on February 5, 2012. This is my first attempt at a metalsmithing tutorial. I’ll show you how I make my 14k gold hoop earrings with the self-locking closure. For those of you who aren’t metal smiths, maybe you’ll find it interesting to see how I spend my days in the studio. Click here to purchase me! Take good notes about what you’ve done, and keep them handy. Tripod is essential for shooting videos. I’m making two pairs...

SilverBlueberry: February 2012
http://jewelry-by-silverblueberry.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Friday, February 3, 2012. Tutorial - fold formed earrings. It's been a while since I did a tutorial. In part it is that I don't feel my skills are on that level that I can tell other people how to make something. And when you see how these earrings are made you will see that it is actually very easy. So I start with cutting two pieces of my fine silver sheet. It is not necessary that they are absolutely identical, but approximately the same size. When I am happy with the curvature of the croissants I wil...
