Travel, Pubs, Music. GATECRASHING CRAFT WEDDINGS IN DULWICH. January 11, 2017. February 2, 2017. Continued from Croydon market…. The trip from Croydon. Is a journey through time, rather than postcodes. Where recent Beer Guide entries in the Cronx have been a throwback to the good old days when the Pride was drinking well ( here. Triangle has some of the most cutting-edge bars in the country, standing on a par with Bethnal Green. Seemed an unlikely spot for a Beer Rebellion. Evil keg, but we like it.

Travel, Pubs, Music. INDEPENDENTS IN T’OTHER BURY. November 14, 2015. January 8, 2017. The southern Bury (St Edmunds) is a wonderful town for an afternoon amble, with more attractive streets than Cambridge, if not Norwich. It’s also only a 40 minute hop on the train for me, a bit quicker than the northern version, though no doubt HS2 will remedy that just as I finally get to move… Continue reading INDEPENDENTS IN T’OTHER BURY. Travel, Pubs, Music. NINJA – AVOIDING THE PLASTICS AT WEST HAM. January 9, 2017. February 2, 2017. My own haul of football grounds. Pales compared to Duncan McKay. And many other ground hoppers. I did, however, visit the 92 league grounds in a 5 year period in the ’90s, much to the delight of Mrs RM. Since you ask, Middlesbrough’s Riverside was the loudest, but City’s trips to crumbling grounds like Oxford and Luton were the most fun. Plastic Southern Manc bandwagon-jumper. Which is pretty much the close...

Munchberg sounds more exciting than it is, but it’s still a lovely slice of rural Germany, with the usual pale colours, cobbled streets and manicured gardens you’d expect. It makes attractive use of the tiny river running through. Ou...May 29, 2016.

Pubs: Then & Now: December 2014
http://pubsthenandnow.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Pubs: Then and Now. Friday, 5 December 2014. UPDATE 2 : #027 The Old Wharf, Digbeth : 1998 to 2014. Back in 2011 when I last reported. The Old Wharf had closed with no immediate prospect of re-opening. However, as I was walking to a meeting in Digbeth this week I came across this sight. It was early afternoon on Wednesday 3rd December 2014. And the new O'Rourkes wasn't open, but I assume that it is now an evening pub. Links to this post. Location: ORourkes, Oxford Street, Digbeth, Birmingham. View my com...

http://pubsthenandnow.blogspot.com/2015/04/164-wharf-inn-hinckley-leicestershire.html
Pubs: Then and Now. Thursday, 23 April 2015. 164 Wharf Inn, Hinckley, Leicestershire : 1995 to 2014. Our first ever trip along the Ashby Canal wasn't originally planned. We were moving our boat from Winkwell near Berkhamsted on the Grand Union Canal to Lapworth on the Stratford Canal. Once we reached Hawkesbury Junction on the Coventry Canal we realised that we'd got a couple of days in hand, so off we went along the Ashby Canal. This was taken on the evening of Sunday 3rd September 1995. Development....
The Pub Curmudgeon: Shunning strength
http://pubcurmudgeon.blogspot.com/2015/06/shunning-strength.html
A jaundiced view of life from the darkest recess of the saloon bar. Wednesday, 17 June 2015. Have recently been reporting on their holiday in the wonderful Yorkshire Dales. In Settle, they were taken by the Talbot Inn. Where they came across the beer list shown to the right. It’s a good mix of styles, and small vs established breweries, but it’s notable that nothing is above 4.0%, something that one commenter pointed out. Most of the well-known premium lagers like Stella and Carlsberg Export have been cu...

Tandleman's Beer Blog: Do We Like That One?
http://tandlemanbeerblog.blogspot.com/2015/07/do-we-like-that-one.html
Tandleman's Random and Particular Thoughts on Beer. Monday, 27 July 2015. Do We Like That One? I'm not a drinker of own brand beers really. I kind of think they are likely to be not very good with one or two exceptions. These exceptions are usually where a very good brewery has been commissioned to produce a particular kind of beer as part of a range. But what about those low end "cooking lagers" which aren't brands, but are set up to compete with "brands"? First up was Galahad Lager. Gives every impress...

http://tandlemanbeerblog.blogspot.com/2015/06/bass-in-sun.html
Tandleman's Random and Particular Thoughts on Beer. Monday, 15 June 2015. Bass in the Sun. You don't encounter Draught Bass that often these days in my experience. I know of a couple of places where it is sold, but I wouldn't go there just to seek the beer out as such. It wasn't always so. I used to make many a pilgrimage to the White Star. On a gorgeous summer's day last week, I was meeting a friend in Helensburgh, a town I know well from my youth in the West of Scotland. The Commodore Hotel. Draught Ba...

Tandleman's Beer Blog: Another Thing the Pub is Best For
http://tandlemanbeerblog.blogspot.com/2015/07/another-thing-pub-is-best-for.html
Tandleman's Random and Particular Thoughts on Beer. Wednesday, 29 July 2015. Another Thing the Pub is Best For. One of our Sunday table from the Tandle Hill Tavern has died. We knew it was coming and so did he. Yesterday after his funeral we met, not at the Tavern, but at the nearby Ship, thus allowing the landlord of the THT to join us to see the lad off in a style he'd have liked. We had a piss up. Sounds like the perfect send off for a pub man. 29 July 2015 at 22:46. 30 July 2015 at 08:57. Nautical vi...

Tandleman's Beer Blog: Fight
http://tandlemanbeerblog.blogspot.com/2015/05/fight.html
Tandleman's Random and Particular Thoughts on Beer. Tuesday, 19 May 2015. We are always being told by the anti drink lobby of "alcohol fuelled violence", but I have remarked here and in comments hither and thither that I can't remember the last time I saw a fight in a pub. Well I can now. Sort of. On my usual Wednesday out at the Regal Moon. An unusual incident I think you'll agree. I'm still guessing though that it will be a long time before I "see" a fight in a pub again. 19 May 2015 at 10:44. This blo...

Campaign for Real Pubs. They can still be found if you know where to look. The Boat, Penallt, Monmouthshire NP25 4AJ. Sunday, September 29, 2013. 29 July 2016 at 23:14. I walked from Monmouth today. As good as you describe, with a very local feel. Loved the view of the rusting railway bridge. Beer very good. 30 July 2016 at 07:13. Good to hear it didnt disappoint. Campaign for Real Pubs. They can still be found if you know where to look. The Brushmakers’ Arms. The Brushmakers’ Arms, Oulton, Staffordshire ST15 8UW. A couple of doors down the road is now closed. Sunday, July 07, 2013. 8 July 2013 at 19:45. 8 July 2013 at 19:54. Although there have been a number of closures, this area still does seem to support some proper country pubs of the kind that has largely vanished from Cheshire. 17 July 2013 at 19:16. Looks rather enticing and worth a visit. In many parts of...

Today, however, I came upon 14 apps that are useful to retirees. 1 AARP - A shortcut to. The best that's available at the AARP website. Keep track of money.
