Picture of the Tembusu tree on the Singapore $5 dollar note. Coming back to the Tembusu trees, you are probably carrying a picture of a famous Tembusu in your pocket. Update: In Year 2002, there was a special stamp issue on Heritage Trees . The Tembusu was in one of the 4 Heritage-tree stamps. Re-trievia recalled: Excerpts from Year 2000. Of a Tembusu tree]. Lighthouses play an important part in the safe passage of ships through rocky waters. Singapore has several lighthouses built for this purpose and three of them were featured on stamps in 1982. Horsburgh Lighthouse, built in 1851, is located about 65 km south-east of Singapore. The lighthouse stands on a rocky outcrop, known as Pedra Branca, in the South China Sea. 7 June, 2010 at 1:00 pm. http://victorkoo.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Taking Up The Challenge. My answer to a colleague's challenge for this old dog (that's me) to blog. I hope I've proven that 'every old dog could do a good blog'. Old Singapore Quiz (25) - Old Road in 1930s. I received this email on 24 Oct 2012 from a UK gentleman by the name of Mr Peter Howard:. I stumbled across your blog when looking for old photos of Singapore. My father went to work in Singapore in the thirties before the Second World War, for the British government I believe. I did a bit of research...

A Singaporean Story Box: December 2013
http://asingaporeanstorybox.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
A Singaporean Story Box. Thursday, 12 December 2013. Nudes I started to like nudes when I was a very young kid. I think that topless Iban woman who regularly delivered fresh fruits to my family in Kuching had something to do with it. There she goes, jaunting up our garden path in all her natural bounciness! She had huge breasts that hung low. probably the lovelies had not seen material support since, what, puberty? I was three years old so no police were called in to arrest me for indecent exposure. ...

Growing Up In Geylang: Little Giant Me
http://growing-up-in-geylang.blogspot.com/2012/08/little-giant-me.html
Growing Up In Geylang. Wednesday, August 22, 2012. There's a zinc roof that covered our 'cellar' in Geylang. Well, it's not exactly a cellar but a common landing where our three-storey high back spiral staircase ended. This staircase was our fire escape and led to a back alley downstairs. Its landing had a door to keep unwanted visitors out. They reminded me more of tiny prehistoric plants than the tall swaying kampong variety. From a distance, they looked positively toy-like. There's a 'World Cities' ex...

Growing Up In Geylang: Eating Out in the 60s/70s

Growing Up In Geylang. Thursday, August 23, 2012. Eating Out in the 60s/70s. In this blog, I have written about food my Cantonese mom had dished up while I was growing up in Geylang. There were times when she preferred not to cook and we would then tapow from kopitiam zhichars and street hawkers. I was often the errand-boy as I liked to cycle. It beats walking from lorong to lorong. I could also take shortcuts through the many backlanes linking them. Along Sims Avenue would come this chwee kueh seller wi...

A Singaporean Story Box: February 2012
http://asingaporeanstorybox.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
A Singaporean Story Box. Saturday, 11 February 2012. Since young, I've always been fascinated by the news reports in early July every year that mark the start of the Bull Run season in Europe. No, I am not talking about the climate of stocks and shares there but rather the dynamic pictures of people being chased (and sometimes gored) by bulls along ancient streets. Are these people mad? All in all, the benefits of using a wheelable hardcase outweighs the negative and I am glad to have made that smart cho...

Good morning yesterday. You wake up, and time has slipped away. And suddenly it's hard to find, the memories you left behind. Remember. Do you remember? Paul Anka, Times of Your Life. Friday, February 27, 2015. Return to Batu Maung. On the trip back, we decided to take the ferry instead of the Penang Bridge even though the latter was faster.
