Here’s another example of the strange things that my wife and I find while out on our runs. First, we found this turtle right off of the running path by a pond. A few days later, we saw one numbered “8” in almost the same spot. We suspected that some of the neighborhood kids had been racing these turtles and just set them free back at the pond. As my wife and I were jogging down a path near our house, we ran under a canopy of vines, including some wild grapes. Right at eye level, I spotted a ripe bunch of grapes. However, on closer inspection, the bunch turned out to be plastic grapes set neatly in the branches. Have you ever encountered something that, on second glance, was not what you first thought? Old Dog New Tricks: March 2011
http://paulmccombs.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Old Dog New Tricks. Personal Reflections on Music, Life, Family, Church, Career, and Change. Tuesday, March 8, 2011. I had the joy of co-writing a song with recording artist Stephanie Sharp Hickman a few years ago, called 'Going Home'. My Dad, who is getting along in years now, liked the song so much he has requested that it be played at his memorial service one of these days. Old Dog New Tricks. Personal Reflections on Music, Life, Family, Church, Career, and Change. Thursday, January 27, 2011. Emory might still claim to be a banjo player, but I suspect his wife will suggest that wasn't his strongest talent. Emory was the youth minister at Sagemont Baptist Church when my family joined, sometime around 1972, and he served in that capacity for several years after I had grown and moved away. Emory has since taken on other responsibilties at Sagemont Church and in the Southbelt c...

Old Dog New Tricks. Personal Reflections on Music, Life, Family, Church, Career, and Change. Friday, April 22, 2011. The Resurrection. The single event that separates Christianity from every other religion. The Bible tells us that Christ, fully God and fully human, freely gave His life as full payment for our sins and He rose again on the 3'rd day, just as He said he would. I cherish the words of the angel when the two Marys went to see the body of Christ:. He is not here- for he is risen". 47 years play...

What's On Pastor's Mind?
What's On Pastor's Mind? Thursday, May 16, 2013. Easter is of course a moveable feast, because it is related to the Jewish celebration of Passover, which moves around because of following the lunar, rather than solar, calendar. Easter means a great deal to me personally. Who can't sing, "I Know My Redeemer Lives" and not feel a lump in the throat? A congregation joins to sing, "In Christ Alone" and we are encouraged to remember that Christ commands our destiny because he is risen; he is risen, indeed!
