You can enjoy many unique experiences in Iwate. One of the most fun, and delicious, is trying the Kakko Dango – ‘Flying Dumplings’ - at Genbikei Gorge near Ichinoseki. Genbikei is a beautiful stretch of river that features dramatic rock formations, rushing rapids and waterfalls. It was truly a unique, only in Iwate.

On the morning of the fifth day of our trek in the Simien Mountains of Ethiopia, we leave the camp at Chenek and hike over the Eastern Escarpment. Skirting north of Mount Bwahit, we descend into the valley of the Mesheba River, heading to the village of Ambikwa. Ambikwa is the base camp for most trekkers who plan to climb Mount Ras Dashen.
