Now, there are many millions in their sects and churches who feel the order, ‘Do thou,’ and throw their weight into obedience. And there are millions more who feel predestination in ‘Thou shalt.’ Nothing they may do can interfere with what will be. But ‘Thou mayest’! Why, that makes a man great, that gives him stature with the gods, for in his weakness and his filth and his murder of his brother he has still the great choice. He can choose his course and fight it through and win. -East of Eden. Other tha...

Six Months in Japan: June 2007
http://abouncingball.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html
Six Months in Japan. Saturday, June 23, 2007. To Do in Japan. Seems like a logical thing to post before I leave, and I like lists. So here is the first of many to come. Dance my ass off at some amazing concerts. (I miss good shows. ). Spend an entire day not saying anything in English. (I have no idea how likely this is, but it sounds like a good challenge.). Plant a tree. (I just saw the movie The Fountain and it made me like trees even more.). Does this make me a tool? Would that be worse? I'll use thi...

C-3 took a field trip to the Imperial Palace and endured Tokyo summer heat and humidity. I really loved my class and Senseis. We always had a great time while learning 新しい文法! Six Months in Japan: and it’s Half Time!
http://abouncingball.blogspot.com/2007/07/and-its-half-time.html
Six Months in Japan. Sunday, July 29, 2007. And it’s Half Time! Time just seems to disappear here. Class takes up the entire morning, but I’m not quite sure where my afternoons, nights, or weekends go. I keep busy (surprised? And have had some amazing excursions these past two weeks. It was a really exciting day that ended by climbing a small mountain to find a waterfall. I really appreciate being so close to natural environments. I forget how much I miss it till I am actually there again. All the best,.
Six Months in Japan
http://abouncingball.blogspot.com/2007/08/sorry-everyone-i-havent-been-writing.html
Six Months in Japan. Wednesday, August 22, 2007. Sorry everyone I haven't been writing recently. Summer courses ended (with a bang) and I actually got really sick. like go to a Japanese hospital and take crazy pills sick, but I am feeling much better now. Not quite sure what it was but its mostly gone. I really hate writing on Japanese keyboards because I keep accidentally hitting the disaster button that turns everything I type into Japanese. So this ends now. Monicamariko at ezweb dot ne dot jp.

Six Months in Japan. Monday, July 16, 2007. First, a haiku for you:. Will make people think. Whoa while I was writing that I felt another tremor. (hence the "NOW! That's my second earthquake ever! Actually, it probably was the same one? I took geology last semester (actually, it was an amazing class that I really recommend to science and non-science people alike), but I don't remember if that happens or not. This has been an interesting twenty four hours:. It has apples on it. PPPS: I read the first chap...

Six Months in Japan. Sunday, July 15, 2007. School. fun. food. So apparently I’m not as good as keeping up with this blog as I had hoped. Sorry! So much has happened in the past week…. Fun: Wednesday a group of students from my program went to the Ghibli Museum. And then on Friday directly after class we ate lunch in ten minutes and went to visit the neighboring elementary school. It was so cute! In general food is different here. I am still amazed by how few vegetables and fruit people eat on a dail...

Six Months in Japan: Zing, Zori, Zen
http://abouncingball.blogspot.com/2007/07/zing-zori-zen.html
Six Months in Japan. Monday, July 30, 2007. Zing, Zori, Zen. I got back not too long ago from another great day and thought I would share while it is still fresh in my mind. (procrastinator extraordinaire). When it rains in Japan, it pours. But since we are out of the rainy season, for the most part anyway, it clears up and gets really nice between showers. The raindrops are huge! View out my window:. Immediately after the Zori Making Seminar, I walked to the 99Shop (dollar store) and the base floor of I...

Thursday, 3 April 2014. There's still a long way to go (and a novel to finish) but watching all these other people getting close to graduation and moving on to their next challenges I'm realising that I will soon follow. It's proving to be a gilded, surreal period of my life in which I'm happily writing more than I'm doing anything else, and I don't want it to be over any time soon. Tuesday, 3 December 2013. I have a small piece of fiction out in Issue 4 of Tincture Journal. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
