Comics, Art, and Judaism. A comic artists spiritual and philosophical quest for serious answers in a goofy artform. Monday, August 22, 2011. Kierkegaard's "Akeida" revisited.its a SHIFT in God's Consciousness. Note: the phrase "Mind of God" is not some cheap effort at appearing "deep"; it is a concept that abounds in the "Zohar" (a classic text in Kabbalah and Jewish Mysticism). The sephirot diagram. Comics, Art, & Judaism: December 2010

Comics, Art, and Judaism. A comic artists spiritual and philosophical quest for serious answers in a goofy artform. Monday, December 20, 2010. Exodus and Eugenics: The Mad Scientist as the new Pharoah archetype. When reading over parsha Shemot (actually, only the second paragraph, Exodus 1:8 - 1:12), which is the beginning of the Exodus story, I couldn't help feeling that Doctor Sivana (of the old "Captain Marvel" comic book series) is the modern face of Pharoah. How illuminating a costume change can be!

Comics, Art, and Judaism. A comic artists spiritual and philosophical quest for serious answers in a goofy artform. Saturday, August 28, 2010. Kierkegaard's "Fear and Trembling": Isaac is the real existentialist hero. My commentary here takes its cues from Kierkegaard's focus on Isaac. Some things we just can't, in good conscience, ask people to do. God's request of Abraham, I feel, falls into that category. It's just gross. What's even more disturbing about this story is that no consideration is giv...

Har Sinai Rabbi: March 2010
http://harsinairabbi.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
The musings of the soon-to-be rabbi at Har Sinai Congregation in Owings Mills, MD. Friday, March 26, 2010. I am so sorry to have not kept up with my blogging as of late. Needless to say, there has been a lot going on in Tucson. Between Purim and our Purimspiel, our 100th Anniversary Gala Celebration, and the soon to arrive festival of Passover, I have been a bit busy with things. In the meantime, I wish all of you a great celebration of freedom. I hope you all have wonderful seders both in your homes...

The musings of the soon-to-be rabbi at Har Sinai Congregation in Owings Mills, MD. Thursday, February 4, 2010. As my tenure as associate rabbi at Temple Emanu-El in Tucson is rapidly coming to a close, I find myself spending quite a bit of time reflecting over my past accomplishments. However there is one area I continue to dwell on, namely my failed bid to become President of these United States. I propose your license plate number also be your cell-phone number because the light is green already! And l...

The musings of the soon-to-be rabbi at Har Sinai Congregation in Owings Mills, MD. Thursday, May 13, 2010. Hi all. Thanks so much for following me as I transition from Temple Emanu-El in Tucson to Har Sinai in Owings Mills, MD. As you may have noticed, I have not been keeping up with this blog as much as I would like. Truth be told, I have been writing a different blog for ages with all sorts of useful materials, articles, book and movie recommendations, and guides for Jewish living.
