Virtual Environments

Tuesday, 20 October 2009. The tutorial videos provided vital help and taught me effective techniques for modeling the face. The methods I learnt can easily be applied to many other objects in the future. The whole process was quite straight forward for me, I had some issues with the UVW Mapping and texturing later on in the process, but this was fixed and came out just fine on my second attempt. If I had more time dedicated to the model I believe I could add some shoulders and shirt to give a more realis...

Virtual Environments: Adding The Head And Neck

http://www.richardkingve.blogspot.com/2009/10/adding-head-and-neck.html

Wednesday, 7 October 2009. Adding The Head And Neck. The next step was to create the head and neck area. Back into Photoshop I loaded the images of my front and side portrait again and used the same idea as before with the red and blue lines to mark the head and neck area of my head. I could then use this as a reference when creating this area within 3DSmax. Under edit geometry I clicked 'collapse', this removes a lot of the polygons while still keeping the shape of the head. Doing this makes it much...

Virtual Environments: Bump And Specular Mapping

http://www.richardkingve.blogspot.com/2009/10/bump-and-specular-mapping.html

Sunday, 18 October 2009. Bump And Specular Mapping. Now that the modeling and texturing process was effectively finished, the next step was to add bump and specular mapping to the face textures to make it appear much more realistic. To start with I opened the render map up inside Photoshop, created a new layer underneath the render map layer and filled the image in a mid grey colour. I also copied my render map layer and kept it hidden, just in case the bump mapping went wrong. I moved the black arrow ab...

Virtual Environments: Preparation

http://www.richardkingve.blogspot.com/2009/10/preparation.html

Tuesday, 6 October 2009. To begin creating my own face in 3DSmax I first had to photograph my portrait from the front and the side. These were taken at the highest resolution possible. The photos would then be imported into Photoshop to edit and prepare for modeling. I had to use the Lens Correction filter tool within Photoshop to straighten out the front and side view portraits of my face so that key features of my face, such as the eyes and mouth, matched up when one image was placed over the other.

Virtual Environments: Creating The Surface

http://www.richardkingve.blogspot.com/2009/10/creating-surface.html

Tuesday, 6 October 2009. Creating the surface of the face is quite simple at this stage. Using the line tool to go over the red quads, with the snap option turned on to make it easier for each quad to join to the last. Whilst creating all the quads in 3D, I found it useful to make the quads see-through via the options in object properties, this allowed me to copy directly from the image behind. I also turned 'edged faces' on within the view port properties. I found this part of the modeling process to be...

Quarta-feira, 15 de julho de 2009. I’m great but I miss you a lot. Let me tell you all about my house and neighbourhood! My house is normal. It’s got two bedrooms, one bathroom in the attic, two bathrooms, a kitchen, a living room and a balcony on the 1st floor. My favourite room is my bedroom where I usually study. On the ground floor there’s a garage and a studio. My neighbourhood is quiet and safe there are almost no facilities. But we are in touch with nature. Por um lado, queremos mostrar às pessoas...

How to Reduce the National Debt by 15%. I usually hate it when a blogger gives a long introductory build-up before getting to his point, so I will cut to the chase and then explain later. How can we reduce the national debt by 15%? How can we default on 15% of the national debt without ruining our ability to sell bonds to investors, pension plans and foreign governments? Simple, by defaulting only on the debt owned by the Federal Reserve. Here is a chart of who owns the federal debt. Now, let me do the b...
