A two hour journey often meant 5 police stops, checking for document irregularities, whether the compulsory fire extinguisher was in the car and on and on. One could be fined 5 times for the same infraction on one journey. Every country and culture has their own thing, no doubt. Just try the Brazilian bureaucracy before condemning the Africans, or even the Spanish! This entry was posted in Malawi.

The museum has a quaint display of a plate, glass, knife and fork used by Kenneth Kuanda in 2007 (I thought he had died years before that! Former President of Zambia. To the side of that was a plaque sent by the Girl Scouts of the 9. A Glasgow group, sending greetings to the Girl Guides of Nyasaland (its name before it became Malawi). (Things fall apart is a title of a book by Chinua Achebe). And so, our clinic and all our work has been somewhat undermined by this but somehow, typical to Africa, we carry on. Most of the people in the clinic are more philosophical than I am about it. I am on the verge of homicide! Dr Livingstone I presume.
