Hampstead: the Dulwich of North London? | Richard Raeburn's Blog
https://richardraeburn.wordpress.com/2010/06/11/93
Richard Raeburn's Blog. June 11, 2010. Hampstead: the Dulwich of North London? South and North London. 8212; richardraeburn @ 4:40 pm. Today I have almost entirely ignored the world of work that in my ‘retirement’ I vaguely inhabit and have been for an extended walk with A, a friend with a far better organised life than mine and an excellent companion (nay, leader) on the occasional expedition. Our first walk together was along one stretch of the Capital Ring. The zig-zagging around Hampstead was a revel...

Richard Raeburn's Blog. October 14, 2010. Best paw forward onwards to one hundred! 8212; richardraeburn @ 8:08 pm. I have picked up the keyboard again because Archie is on my mind. It is a Thursday and I am yet again on the train to Brussels a journey for which I should hold what in the old days we used to call a ‘season ticket’ but now must be some kind of super Oyster card (a London travel reference non-Londoners click here. Is being Welsh an embarrassment? | Richard Raeburn's Blog
https://richardraeburn.wordpress.com/2010/07/11/is-being-welsh-an-embarrassment
Richard Raeburn's Blog. July 11, 2010. Is being Welsh an embarrassment? 8212; richardraeburn @ 11:20 am. A short reflection on the topic of being Welsh. I am half Welsh my mother is I believe proud of her own pure Welsh origins and from my earliest days I well remember how she would always speak from London over the phone to her Welsh family in the language. One felt slightly excluded. Growing up I spent a lot of time on what was initially my grandparents’ and then my uncle’s farm (qv the Penygroes blog.

Richard Raeburn's Blog. May 26, 2010. Of trains and names. 8212; richardraeburn @ 4:01 pm. When I was young really young I used to travel each summer with parents and sisters to West Wales for a couple of weeks staying with grandparents on their farm. We would be seated in one of the chocolate and cream painted carriages of the Western Region of British Railways (don’t ask what these have been replaced by that’s too upsetting for an old sentimentalist like me). 1 Comment ». Richard Raeburn's Blog. July 18, 2011. A day (or part of one) in Paris. 8212; richardraeburn @ 8:00 pm. Unusually I was in Paris rather than Brussels today. Still on treasury matters indeed, the regulation of derivatives. But it was a different day in several respects; I had one meeting and was then a free agent hence in particular the reference below to a good lunch. My trips to Brussels and Paris involve Eurostar. Some reflections triggered by the visit to Paris:. Makes just this point and explains it ...

ESMA’s stakeholder involvement – time to challenge? | Richard Raeburn's EACT Blog
https://eactchairman.wordpress.com/2014/03/25/esmas-stakeholder-involvement-time-to-challenge
Richard Raeburn's EACT Blog. Just another WordPress.com weblog. ESMA’s stakeholder involvement time to challenge? March 25, 2014. Since the establishment of ESMA. Early in the life of ESMA I raised this issue with its newly appointed chair, Steven Maijoor. We are so frustrated by this failure of stakeholder involvement on ESMA’s part that we have now launched a formal complaint to the European Ombudsman. Which established ESMA. By rejecting all the applications from non-financial counterparties and c...

Richard Raeburn's EACT Blog. Just another WordPress.com weblog. The real impact of derivatives regulation: time to challenge ESMA with the realities? February 17, 2015. That volume of work is incidentally (and in my view) contributing neither to the greater good of treasurers, their employing organisations nor I suspect regulators. But the EACT does not allow itself to become weary and in our response to ESMA. On the first point we highlight the problems caused by the rule changes and adaptations that ar...

Richard Raeburn's EACT Blog. Just another WordPress.com weblog. And we thought the CVA risk capital charge exemption was safe. April 24, 2013. That war was of course Basel III and its European incarnation, CRD IV / CRR. Funnily enough we won the war as well, especially once we secured support in the European Parliament for the extension of the EMIR exception principle to the CVA risk capital charge in CRR. The letter is diplomatically worded but its intent is fairly clear. SIFMA states:. We would respect...

Richard Raeburn's EACT Blog. Just another WordPress.com weblog. And we thought the CVA exemption was safe.part II. July 1, 2013. I blogged a couple of months ago. About the future of the CVA exemption within CRD IV/CRR the EU implementation of Basel III. I was flagging concern about the attitude of the large US banks and the pressure being exerted by them on their trade association (SIFMA), on the US Treasury and through both these channels on the BIS. The reply from the bank is available here. 8230;] An...

Richard Raeburn's EACT Blog. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Financial Transaction Tax: I should have seen what was coming. June 4, 2013. My letter to the Financial Times on 22 May. I had said: [FTT’s] avowed aims to seek some recovery from the financial system for the taxpayer costs of the crisis and to discourage non value-added transactions are ones with which the real economy has some sympathy . I’m not sure I could have pinned my personal feelings more overtly to the mast. I believe that the way ...

Just another WordPress.com site. Five good walks – and a plan. RIP in Pembrokeshire: the end of the journey →. Whatever happened to the ditches in Pencaer? September 1, 2013. One of the hazards of the country lanes around Penygroes used to be the ditches. My memory of the 1950s is that they were ever present and potentially as much a challenge to walkers as they certainly were to drivers (at least to those walkers forced by the occasional driver into the side of the lane). But what became of the ditches?

Richard is a teacher of ICT in East Sussex. April 14, 2014. I thought this blog was a good place to document my bike. I need a place to store the data and the decisions. With regards to ratios. I’m going from 42 to 48 on the front and most likely getting a smaller small cog on the back which will give me better flat and downhill speed. Going uphill, I’m going from a small 25 to 28 on the front with 34 (or 32 on the back). January 21, 2013. You are encouraged to write your own Java Compiler… In fact...

Richard Raeburn's Blog | Vaguely plural life, OTC derivatives and social housing
Richard Raeburn's Blog. August 1, 2012. Farewell to my barber; you were supposed to outlive me. 8212; richardraeburn @ 7:19 am. I used to joke with him about the possibility of his ever retiring, something that filled me with dread: it’s not easy to start afresh after 37 years with the same barber. Ivor’s response was always that he had no intention of ever stopping. I suspect he knew full well that he would work until death overtook his ambitions. There was not a large crowd at his funeral yesterday but...

The photo has a power, a paradoxical power to make visible the invisible. My photos can seem eclectic and without commonalities, but they are the consequence of an approach, of a vision. There are signs and conjunctions which are not fortuitous. The back shop is for me important. What interests me, it is the scene and the behind-the-scenes.
