Ride for FAME

Sunday, July 27, 2008. Day 65: And the Journey Continues. Day 65 - 7/20/08. First full day off after finishing the ride- and it was rather nice to not be sitting on a hard, small, violating bike saddle for 7 hours. Around 11:30 am while sitting in the coffee shop, it hit me that I wasn't continuing on with the trip. Good and bad feelings- nice to be able to relax, but this lifestyle is also just so damn appealingly simple. What can you do? Day 64: The End. Day 64 - 7/19/08. End - Banff- the END Beotch!

Chuck Bolte: Journeys: Hilgard Peak

http://chuckbolte.blogspot.com/2012/08/journeys-hilgard-peak.html

Sunday, August 26, 2012. My eyes flutter open then immediately dart to the clock in the dashboard. 6:30 am A small shot of adrenaline jolts my system as I realize I have lingered too long. I throw open the car door and am blasted by the brisk morning air. Wide awake I strike out on the trail setting a fast pace. Summit of unnamed peak. Hilgard Peak in the background. On the south and taller summit of Hilgard Peak. The interesting summit register on the north summit. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Chuck Bolte: May 2012

http://chuckbolte.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Friday, May 11, 2012. Journeys: Pacific Coast - Highway 101. Waterfall above Falcon Cove, OR. Waterfall spilling into Falcon Cove tide pools. I got the waterfall photo from the beach then returned to my truck. I drove a mile or two up the road to where there was an overlook looking down on Manzanita, OR. It was a great view and I stopped to have lunch and relax from the morning's hike. While lounging, an older gentleman called out, "Whale! Thursday, May 10, 2012. Chuck Bolte: Journeys: Beehive Peak - Day 2

http://chuckbolte.blogspot.com/2012/09/journeys-beehive-peak_16.html

Sunday, September 16, 2012. Journeys: Beehive Peak - Day 2. The route started in a positive left facing corner. The guide book indicated a belay stance at 95 feet. I found a huge ledge that seemed to be 50 or 60 feet off the ground. I called down to Luke and asked how high he thought I had climbed. "60 feet! Luke hollered up from the belay signaling that I had reached the end of the rope. Grrrrreat! Julie climbing on the final pitch of 4th class rock. This is how you pose on the summit guys.".

Chuck Bolte: January 2012

http://chuckbolte.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

Tuesday, January 31, 2012. I got a late start on my journey to hike Mount Blackmore. But I did get started. I felt like I was in a rush for starting late so I hauled as fast as the snowshoes would let me on the hard packed skin track in Hyalite. Canyon. It was a steep five miles each way and I hoped to get out before night fall, but had my headlamp with me just in case. I left the trailhead. Shot up to my right and a steep saddle was directly in front of me to the south. From the skin track. And the Brid...

Chuck Bolte: Journeys: The Grand Teton

http://chuckbolte.blogspot.com/2012/09/journeys-grand-teton.html

Thursday, September 20, 2012. Journeys: The Grand Teton. Of course I had time! Doctor Matt stops in the Meadow to squash the sun. We roped up and quickly passed the Bell Roll, a large block jamming the passage to the Belly Crawl. We reached the Belly Crawl and I led on climbing with my hands on the top of the A-frame feature and my feet on the outward sloping slab. The crawl pinched down to a 10 foot hand traverse then ended at the second chimney where I placed a cam and belayed Doctor Matt. Bozeman, Mon...

Chuck Bolte: Journeys: Sphinx and Helmet

http://chuckbolte.blogspot.com/2012/09/journeys-sphinx-and-helmet.html

Saturday, September 29, 2012. Journeys: Sphinx and Helmet. Summer has faded and soon the snow will start to fly in the short shoulder season of autumn. This leaves a small window for me to make the final push on my biggest hike of the warm season - the summits of Sphinx Mountain and its neighbor The Helmet. I took a photo using a small tripod and the point and shoot making sure to get the west slope of Sphinx in the background. I ate Pop Tarts then started back down to the dirt gully.

Friday, November 30, 2012. Journeys: Catching A Buzz On Beehive Peak. This entry featured as an article at livingbozeman.com. 8220;I want to do something big on Friday.” I tell friend and photographer Ryan Day Thompson. “I am thinking Gallatin Peak. 8221; I continue. Ryan's face drops and I can tell that the thought of a 16 mile day hiking in snow does not appeal to him. Monday, August 20, 2012. This does not look like 84 and sunny." I said. His name was Matt McGee. We hung out and discussed what a great idea it would be to turn back. Soaked fourth class slab with consequential exposure was an unnecessary risk. The mountain would be there another day. We hiked down talking about winter mountaineering and skiing. It stopped raining, but the damage had been done. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Journeys: Middle and South Tetons. Journeys: City of Rocks, ID - Day 5.

Chuck Bolte: Journeys: Granite Peak

http://chuckbolte.blogspot.com/2012/09/journeys-granite-peak.html

Saturday, September 08, 2012. It looks like something froze to death on the Froze to Death Plateau. We rested and had a snack at some bivy sites below Tempest Mountain. A mountain goat seemed interested and walked close by, but never made a move for our salty urine. Conrad scoping out the line up the east slope. Conrad making moves on the east slope. Conrad making moves on the summit ridge. Extreme hair brushing on top of Montana! On the way out. Note the goat. We reached the parking lot. I tried to ...
