Adventures of a well-rested runner in the city that never sleeps. A Blog By Any Other Name. Summer Reading →. August 12, 2015. Joni Mitchel says you don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone. Passenger says you only miss the sun when it starts to snow. I say you don’t realize how many gosh-darn flights of stairs you walk a day until you develop a bout of runner’s knee and each subsequent descent results in a throbbing stab of torture. Sole Exception: When this buffoon is sitting on them. At the sound of ...

Adventures of a well-rested runner in the city that never sleeps. Newer posts →. I Love the Nineties. August 22, 2016. Measuring one’s health, much like measuring the size of Donald Trump’s hands, is very much up to interpretation. Really: what is it that makes someone “healthy” anyways? Is it their weight? Is it the number of miles they can run (26.2, baby) or the number of push-ups they can complete (no comment)? Or telling her about the 2016 election cycle, for that matter? I sat down with my grandmot...

Adventures of a well-rested runner in the city that never sleeps. October 23, 2016. I think “adulting” is a silly concept, but even I’ll admit I’ve done a lot of really grown up things these past 12 months. I got engaged. I bought renters insurance. I learned de-scaling a coffee maker is a thing … Continue reading →. Yes, All Women Runners. October 9, 2016. Whole 30: The Second Time Around. October 3, 2016. A Most Violent Year. Adventures of a well-rested runner in the city that never sleeps. Pop Physique aka Pain Incarnate: A Review. August 31, 2016. What weighs more: a pound of feathers or a pound of bricks? Trick question. They weigh the same. But you know what weighs a million times more? The one-pound weights at Pop Physique. Don’t be fooled by appearances: these itty bitty … Continue reading →. Adventures of a well-rested runner in the city that never sleeps. Saving My Own Skin. July 16, 2015. Running as a pastime has made me comfortable in my own skin. Unfortunately, my skin itself may not be so comfortable with running. Although running has done excellent things for my overall complexion — from fewer breakouts to better blood … Continue reading →. Run Eat Play RVA: February 2015
http://www.runeatplayrva.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 17, 2015. Scenes from a Snow Run. We got around 6" of snow overnight in Richmond. This is not a usual occurrence for us; I'm sure you can imagine the mad rush to obtain toilet paper, milk, and bread that happened yesterday before the flakes started to fly. There's no better incentive than that, let me tell you. Needles to say, I got my work finished and then thoroughly enjoyed my reward. Monday, February 16, 2015. I'm not running races just to run them, or because someone else is. Someo...

Thursday, March 26, 2015. I Qualified for Boston at the Shamrock Marathon! Just over a month ago, I came back from a long silence and told you all that I was focusing on quality over quantity. and that I wasn't going to run a spring marathon. Well, here's the full confession: when I wrote that entry on February 16, I was already considering attempting to qualify for Boston at the Shamrock Marathon in Virginia Beach on March 22. That was the plan, at least. Then I started asking myself - why wait? And the...

Wednesday, July 1, 2015. Kathryn here for what has apparently become my typical quarterly check in. Honestly, I really miss blogging and hope I can kick start myself into it again. When you have a very demanding day job that is writing based, it is hard to come home and get excited about writing some more. So, what am I up to? What a silly question! I'm training for a marathon, of course. To be more specific, the Erie Marathon. Despite that and the less than desirable weather, I think I'm making some rea...
Run Eat Play RVA: The Agony and the Ecstasy
http://www.runeatplayrva.com/2014/11/the-agony-and-ecstacy_4.html
Tuesday, November 4, 2014. The Agony and the Ecstasy. Running is such a temperamental mistress. One week, it takes you to the heights of happiness and then, when you weren’t expecting it, BAM! Plunged into the depths of despair. Right now I should be basking in the afterglow of a mission accomplished at Steamtown and coasting my way to a fun-filled Richmond Marathon, where I planned to just have a good time running with my teammates and enjoying the beautiful course and city that I love. Cue panicked ici...

Run Eat Play RVA: Becoming a Runner

Then came January 2010 when I challenged my husband to a race - the Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10k. I wanted to get him exercising more and thought that some friendly competition would be the perfect way to do it. After all, what man would want to admit that his wife beat him in sporting competition? We joined the training group at the local YMCA. I'll never forget the first time I managed to run 3 miles at the track without stopping. It hurt, but it was amazing at the same time. Marine Corps 10k, 2010.

Friday, November 14, 2014. My 2 Cents, For What They're Worth. You've read Kit's play-by-play for tomorrow and I'm here to tell you that it's all true. You'll be like a kid on Christmas morning and wake up at 4 am. It will take forever for the start to happen. The first ten miles. Now, take all of that and file it away. Don't think about it again until you are in the moment tomorrow. To just run, you need to do a few things. Sounds oxymoronic, I know. But hear me out. I know you've heard this already abo...

New address, same running blog. Wednesday, December 31, 2014. 2014: A Year In Review. This past year has been an incredibly rewarding one for me, both running-wise and non-running wise. One thing it obviously has not been, however, is a great year for blogging. If you count this post, if posted only six times during the calendar year! That's a big decrease from my 30 posts in 2013 and a massive plummet from 2012's 126. So, given that I haven't posted much, how did the year go? Of course, my biggest runni...

New address, same running blog. Friday, February 14, 2014. Friday Haikus: Neverending Winter Edition. First things first, I know I haven't posted in four months. Well, rather than dwell on that, I'm going to jump back in with a round of Friday haikus inspired by the terrible winter we've been having in the northeast. Enjoy! Just a dusting, winds are light. Is this summer time? Sidewalks frozen, streets are slush. This is getting old. Ran inside each day this week. God, I want some sun. June 7, 2015.

Wags The Wolf Virtual Pet. Wind Energy and Other Alternative Energy. Monday, June 9, 2014. It's been a good time in E.T., one of the highlights of it all had to be blogging. Getting the chance to "vent", to tell the "world" how I felt, what I was thinking. It was all wonderful, I really did enjoy blogging. I wasn't just doing it for the grade, I was doing it for the enjoyment of it all. Sometimes I come across other blogs and I just wish my blog could be as good as theirs! They look so professional!
